Royal Mail working Sunday?

I am still awaiting various items ordered online (amazon/ebay) and wondered if the Royal Mail were doing deliveries on Sunday. I seem to remember them working a Sunday before Christmas a few years ago (perhaps?!). Checked on their website and I couldn't see anything, so I presume not.

Also does anyone know if any of the main courier firms are working Sunday? (Although I doubt that too!) but it may help some people, if they find out about any that are.

We've been doing collections but not deliveries.

You may find some self employed couriers for say Hermes or DHL may deliver on Sunday trying to deliver as much stuff before xmas.

some areas will,some areas won't
it very much depends on budget and how far in the mire they are at that particular office

Ok, thanks for the responses. I thought the Royal Mail would have a national policy on this rather than how busy each depot is. I can understand self-employed couriers making their own decision to work but surprised each post office can.

Well I'll just wait and see if anything turns up tomorrow. (Actually, things may arrive today anyway - hopefully!).

well what would the national policy be?
if an office is clear or can cover whats left in working hours,why would they pay extra to deliver on a Sunday?
what if no staff are available for the Sunday etc etc
offices vary in mail volumes and the type of area they deliver to. so its not as clear cut as simply saying everyone will work Sunday

oh and Post offices don't deliver anything

That is what I was asking. I think it's in the realm of possibility they could have had one! e.g. Saturday + Sunday - because of Christmas both become "normal working days" or if you have over 5000 letters/parcels in depot on Saturday dinner time then they have to work Sunday - (I'm obviously not saying this is necessarily the case but something like this is at least theoretically possible).

Yes I know. A post office is a building! Just sometimes forget and write office/post office rather than Royal Mail postal service / Royal Mail depot etc. - but you knew what I meant!

It won't really help but we've had sunday deliveries for the past few years.

well if you make Sunday a working day
thats a lot of money in wages
There should be no letters in the DO by Saturday at 1700! thats a USO failure excluding Saturday retentions(eg closed businesses)
Saturday is a normal working day

My other half is a postie and his office has been doing sunday deliveries for the past 2 weeks HTH

Not an answer to your question ste - but Christmas is the same date every year.
Expecting people to work on Sunday to enhance your Christmas is a bit rum.
