First speeding fine in 35 years -advice needed

The only role of the police is to 'allege' and brief the prosecutor. Not to act as Judge, Jury and Executioner. So quite rightly, the police should never get the power to take anyone off the road or get anyone expelled from the Cabinet.
Or have I missed something?
My intention was to float a suggestion about a possible way to make road safety courses more immediately effective.
If the police stop me when I am drunk, or driving an unroadworthy vehicle, I will not be allowed to proceed - it would not be unreasonable for them to have similar powers if they catch me committing any other driving offence.0 -

Would it be reasonable to detain/inconvenience the passengers for a minor speed offence?0 -
82mph will qualify him for a speed awareness course, assuming the speed limit was 70. He won't have to go to Wales - most police forces (including all the Welsh ones, and Kent) are in the national scheme, which means you can do a course organised by your local force in lieu of one organised by the force in the area in which you were caught. Courses in Kent cost £85 and take 4 and a half hours - you can see more information on them here

Thanks - I've spoken to lots of people who have done speed awareness courses - 4 that I can think of, and one was a speed of 93 on the m/way - so hoping this will be the case.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0 -

I am really not looking for an argument here!!!
If a driver breaks the law whilst carrying passengers, then it is the driver's responsibility to deal with any inconvenience which the passengers might suffer - my point is that an occasional speeding fine is not always a very significant deterrent to further offending0 -
For very good reasons, the most the police should be empowered to do is to 'allege'. If you are happy to accept their allegations against you, then go for it. But don't impose it on the rest of us.kerby_crawler wrote: »it would not be unreasonable for them to have similar powers if they catch me committing any other driving offence. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -

I think you'll find your suggestion will increase speeding. It's the points that deter people.0 -

But are they not allowed to deal with the matter at the roadside with a fixed penalty. Therefore making them judge and jury?0 -
You are right. But it is only a partial blot on justice, because you can let it go to court and defend.Sgt_Pepper wrote: »But are they not allowed to deal with the matter at the roadside with a fixed penalty. Looks like it. There are choices if a person receives a FPN. And Mitchell wasn't expelled from the cabinet he resigned."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

The course used to be a full day in our area (Lancs) £90. However, its half day now, no driving, just classroom at £60, which is the same as taking the 3 points and £60 fne. My Husband did the course the other week for first time too0
