Barney1979, i feel for you. it's a rubbish time of year with expectations so high.
might sound daft but have you considered getting a dog? i found suddenly everyone wanted to chat, depending on where you live there can be a big social circle connected. great relaxed way of meeting new people.
also dogs are great for making you feel better. simple but effective.
best of luck in 2013, think it'll be a better year for you.
  • I'd recommend taking a look at The Happiness Project by Gretchen Reuben. It's very helpful in giving you a structured and accessible way to think about how to increase your happiness
  • Get yourself one of those SAD lamps. Light therapy this time of year does make a big difference. When you think about it, we're in winter with very few daylight hours which creates a vitamin D deficiency in almost everyone.

Some vitamin supplements, a bit of light therapy, giving yourself something to look forward to like a good book, a trip to the cinema or whatever - all of these are positive steps which will help you to manage your feelings.

'This too will pass', seems appropriate. Hang on in there and be kind to yourself.

To put a positive spin on your post - you're still young, single (have no one to answer to!), own a house, and are employed. Lots of good points imo.

No ones life is perfect, if it was people wouldn't always be striving for more. It's human nature.

Chin up and take the world on.

Another pre-Christmas rant, but just feel my life is slipping away. I'm 33, single and just see life passing me by. I own a house, but I live and work over 90 miles away from it, do not have any friends to call upon, I'm pretty broke and my parents are pretty much housebound, so when I do visit them, it saps the life out of me.

Really selfish post, but just weary of life.:(
Its all about your own expectations, what is it you really want?

Fast forward 20 years, you have got your financial life sorted out but both your parents have passed away and you have recently lost your job through no fault of your own. You still have no friends to speak of and find going out on your own more of a chore than a good thing.

All of a sudden your life at 33 did not seem so bad after all and a few small changes at that time might result in a whole different outlook 20 years later.

Careful with that, my dog means I am "tied" to the house - no random weekends away - no accidentally staying at the pub too long - no long distance public transport - not welcome at all friends' houses if we do go away - no selling up and emmigrating - restrictions on house rentals etc etc - extra costs repainting the hallway in washable emulsion ;)

I'm so sorry you feel like that. I am on the look out for friends too though as I am finding life is very lonely as I seem to go to work, come home, eat and go back to work .........

I'm in Preston, Lancashire if its relevant.

Its the wintery blues mate. This weather does some right work to the weary old body's of ours.

Tough it out pal, you seem to be getting along just fine. Some of us here are struggling with work and finding a house to afford! Youve got both :D
