I've tried really hard to avoid reading this thread, because our little pup is still only five months old.
I know the feeling of dread I had when my babies were about that age, & deading anything bad ever happening to them. I felt it again with our iguana & with pup.
To those of you who have lost a loved pet, I wish you nothing but good memories.

I had to have my beloved cat put to sleep on 24th July - just three weeks ago. He had an abcess in his tummy that he had had for years as a cyst and we think it finally burst. He had a fit but still purred after! Then he started to stop purring and I knew we were losing him. In the end I had to help him go as I don't think he wanted to leave me himself. It was awful and something I will never want to look back on as good but I had to help him. He was 13 and I loved him. I knew it was time. He knew it was time. I feel for anyone who has to go through anything like this. It is so hard. Bless you.
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Yes it's true, you know when it's time to let them go, but it doesn't make it easy. our little furry friends are only lent to us for a while, then we have to give them back. There's a place in our hearts for cats too.
Hugs to everyone at this sad time

Me too 3 weeks ago tomorrow its been the hardest time ever and I miss him every day. My DH asked what I missed about him the most about him and I couldn't think of just one thing there's a great long list!! Its getting easier everyday but has made me incredibly unhappy but at the end believe me you will just "know" when the time is right to let go. My sympathies to those that have loved and lost their cherished pets and to those that are lucky enough to still have them with them enjoy every moment.

Very sorry to hear the news. I know how you are feeling as I have lost several pets in the past. Remember the good times you had and what a happy life you gave to your pet.

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor: those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent: his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings
