Have you followed the exact instructions given on the Thomson support website
    http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/codepages/content3.asp?c=7&ProductID=471
for updating the drivers to Vista? It states the following:-

    Release 4.1

Update for Windows Vista - site 1 | site 2

Order ST-330 Vista CD by post
NOTE: Any previous ST-USB/330 Driver must be removed prior to installing version 4.1

Download the Vista Update and save to a temp directory.
    UNPLUG your ST-USB/330 modem.
Using Windows Add/Remove Programs un-install the previous driver.
    Install the Vista Update.
PLUG in your modem when prompted by the installer, and not before.

anyway....I phoned ntl and they told me as they don't supply modems which work with vista......how can that be true......i have to buy one.......so, which one do I buy? and where do you get them? I just find it incredible that ntl..virgin media, canny supply a modem to work with vista. What is everyone else doing.

thanks albertross for the router advice...could you recommend one?
I just don't want to get this wrong, or the bin men will get a lovely surprise this week.
    thanks

This is to use broadband via a BT line with an ADSL connection I presume, (i.e. not cable..)

If so, netgear dg834G assuming you want to go wireless.

I can confirm that you can install the speedtouch 330 on a vista machine. I have done it (several times) mosty with success.

Having said that, it is a bit hit and miss and depends on what release software you are using. Also, previous attempts to install it seem to cause issues so try a system restore to a day just before you attempted to first install.

Initially the drivers were not available and many people used work arounds with the XP software.
A lot of technical support staff for these companies are not trained very well on new products so some of them try to guess what to do and often give incorrect advice.

It does work - I can assure you!

I have the same modem and i used the disc that came with the xp drivers and it worked fine first time. Don't plug the modem in untill you are told too.
Don't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best

Just because it's free don't mean it's good

    Ditch Norton Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:

Just Because you read it some where don't mean it's right ;)
