  • Shaun exactly the esta would of been rejected
  • Are the covers of subject & citizen passports not different?
  • My passport is normal I've never noticed I was travelling with my brother who was showing as citizen. Now I know it stands out but never once during all my travelling have I noticed it.
  • Are the covers of subject & citizen passports not different?

No. The passports look identical from the outside.
The only difference is on the details page of the passport. There is a category of "Nationality" & this will state either British citizen or British subject.
  • Would I be right in thinking a subject wouldn't be born in uk?

The ESTA is an electronic check. Therefore it would have approved you as a British Citizen if that's what the Passport Service have you as on record.

HOWEVER; the airline have to go on the documentation presented to them. And that said British Subject. Which, if BA and Shaun are indeed correct, are not eligible. Therefore BA were left with little choice. They couldn't run the risk of you being refused on landing in Vegas.

As far as I can tell, your passport had the wrong details and BA refused you travel because of it. If so, that sucks but it's hardly BA's fault.

As far as you complaint is concernced it has as most of the common problems you see in these cases, i.e. ranting, no paragraphs, lots of irrelevant emotional stuff, empty threats about going to the press, requesting that the complaint is resolved without suggesting what you take a satisfactory resolution to be, etc. My guess is you'll get a standard reply, perhaps with a few Avios points thrown in, but it's hard to believe anyone there would actually take the time to read through it. Next time, keep it short and sweet.

Aren't the ground staff BAA ?

Still don't get it. Your passport is incorrect? But it's someone else's fault?
Or it's correct, and you aren't eligible to fly?

Where you are born isn't the whole story. My wife is British, but she wasn't born in Britain.

  • MAYBE should have different covers IF this is correct

  • The different coloured cover is only for British subjects who do not have the right of abode in the UK.

British Citizen passports and those of British Subjects who have the right to live here are identical from the outside.
My wife is Irish born but has British Citizenship, hence the need for her to have a visa for travel to the US and her passport is the same as mine on the outside.
