Amazon - late deliveries. AAAARGH.

Is anyone else having problems with Amazon deliveries just now?

Just had a humdinger of a webchat and I am tearing my hair out. I'll keep this as short as possible:

Ordered item 1 on the 12th. Delivery estimate 19/12/12. Not here.
Ordered item 2 on the 10th. Delivery estimate 20/12/12 (2 day "lead time" on order page). Also, not here.

So, yesterday, I had a webchat with them as concerned about item 2 as it's a Christmas present. "Don't worry" said the very helpful Indian man, "I am confident you will receive this tomorrow". I asked him what if it doesn't, would I still be able to order a replacement AT MY OWN COST with expedited delivery and receive this before 25/12/12? "Yes, no problem"...

So, today, guess what? No items. Webchat again. The first chap wouldn't budge, so asked to escalate to a manager. He then decides he actually can help and will place a replacement order to be delivered on the 22nd. Then passes me onto his manager.

The manager: "oh even if we were to order a replacement with expedited delivery you wouldn't receive it before th 25th...".

AAARRRGH! We then went round in circles, her advising about stock issues and estimates, and me trying to explain that if her counterpart yesterday had told me that today would be too late then I would have paid for it again myself yesterday.

tl;dr: Two items from Amazon at least 7 days to deliver, Amazon not quite understanding their own shipping and lead times.

Great.

Are these from Amazon itself of from sellers? I've been ordering a lot of stuff over the last few days and found that free postage items are taking 2 - 5 days and first class is two days. It's bizarre that you were told they couldn't get the items to you by 25th, I assume it's specific to some type of items because everything I've looked at today guarantees delivery by Saturday.
  • Anyone would think it was a busy time of year or something...

If you used super saver delivery that's basically just Royal Mail second class post. I am sure they posted the parcel when they said they would. They have no control over royal mails delivery service and as its Xmas Royal Mail are very busy!

  • Nope but then they've given me another Prime free trial so I've been ordering loads of stuff all of which has arrived when they said it would except the cat food which was 2 days early.

I have prime, big Amazon user - Yodel are doing a pretty good job of ruining my Christmas right now.

Its only Amazon's fault that they use Yodel, beside that Yodel are proving to be as useless as ever.
  • I ordered a ton* of Christmas shopping from Amazon last Wednesday night and it arrived Friday morning with free super-saver delivery. :)

*this is an exaggeration, the collective weight of items did not weigh this amount.

Indeed, it's like it's the first time it's ever been Christmas...

Yeah, Amazon itself. The item says "may take an additional 2 days to deliver" on the product page. The first order was allegedly sent a day after ordering. In any case, surely even with the 2 day lead time I'd be ok to order expedited delivery right up until some point on the 21st?

I guess not. The additional 2 days means the item is coming from one of Amazon's other European stores and their warehouse, usually Amazon.fr or Amazon.de, to one of Amazon's UK warehouses for delivery to you. I don't know how these sorts of orders are sent to the UK warehouse (they're definitely posted on from the UK), but the timing of that would seem to be why this order can't be guaranteed for Christmas.

I had a look at an item with the same status and it wasn't possible to get it before Christmas. I also looked at the European Amazon site it was on, in this case Germany, and even with the most expensive shipping option from there, it wasn't guaranteed to get here before Christmas. When considering the item's got to come from a foreign country, it's not too surprising Amazon can't promise Christmas delivery.
This is everybody's fault but mine.
