it could be worse, imagine if it was a laptop:eek:

don't bother trying to save it, just nip out and buy another, and maybe serve it up with a nice bottle of wine, steak and chips, candles, and barry white singing in the background:rotfl:

When one of my friend spilt his beer over my keyboard, I had to take it all apart, clean it, dry it and put it back together :( It took me about an hour so it was worth the effort. And it was a good occasion to clean it up :p

Thanks for the help (to those of you who did).

I panicked as I had no idea how much keyboards cost and my OH is possibly about to lose his job so don't want to add to his stress right now. Now I know they are so cheap I won't be so worried next time.

For various reasons I do want to avoid an "I told you so" moment - because of the above, things are a little stressed in our house right now -my OH got virtually no sleep last night worrying about the future.

I am now retreating from the techie forum it to put my keyboard in the airing cupboard and hope for the best.
  • This happened to me last week, initially strange things started happening when I tried to type text. Letters repeated indefinately. My heart sank! Let the whole thing dry out and all now is fine.

What your husband doesn't know wont hurt him. Probably not a good basis for a strong marriage though!!!

Oh that reminds me, my laptop does the most crazy things when it gets some water in it. It usually starts thinking that the control key is being pressed with certain keys. Last time it was D, and most of the numbers. Pretty amusing but then the laptop heats up enough to evaporate it.

    For the future.
If there is sugar in the drink fill a bucket/sink/bath with fresh water and rinse the keyboard throughly and then dry it out before useing it. the sugar causes the keys to stick. dont forget that alcohol is fermented sugar.

I lent one of my digi cameras to someone who on a night out put it on a table and beer got spilt on it everything now sticks as they just dried it out.

Goodness, there seem to be quite a few judgemental people on this board. Read a few posts up and you will understand my situation a little better!

A couple of weeks ago I decided my keyboard was filthy and needed a clean. I popped all the keys off one by one with a paperclip (all 105 of them) and shoved the whole lot in the sink with a bit of fairy to cut through the grease. Rubbed each key with a cloth, and went round the base of the keyboard with a couple of cotton buds to pick up all the hairs, crumbs, spots of ketchup (bacon sarnies :D). Gave it a good rinse and put everything in the airing cupboard overnight to dry out.

Came out lovely, though the 5 key on the number pad tends to stick a little bit.

As long as you unplug it quickly (it gets 5 volts from the computer and electricity + liquid is usually a bad idea) and give it a good rinse in warm water, it should be fine. Just make sure it's totally dry before you plug it back in.
