The former BTfon

Options
A couple of years ago or so I bought a Fonera router for accessing BTfon wi-fi hotspots through my mobile without having to be a BT broadband customer.

I didn't use it much.

Now I see there's no BT Fon everything is called BT Wi-Fi.

Can I access this (once I remember how to log in)?

Or has this non-BT access been shut down?

You can access it if you have BT Broadband and have not opted out of your BT HomeHub being a WiFi hotspot.

I think you can still access it if you have an active Fonera plugged in.

You can also access it free if you have some (but not all) Orange mobile phone contracts.

It is very confusing but BT Openzone and BT Wi-Fi are different services. This is what I understand is the situation.

BT Openzone is normally a subscription / PAYG service from commercial sites and BT Wi-Fi is a add on from BT broadband (home) customers.

Your old Fon account should get you access to BT Wi-Fi , but will not give access to BT Openzone hotspots. To access Fon /BT Wi-Fi you will need your Fon router connected to the internet.

Orange customers can access BT Openzone either as an £2 month add on or as part of their package. They cannot access the BT Wi-Fi (the new name for BT Fon)
  • in the UK Try looking for BT Wifi with Fon, it works a treat, Like yourself, i also purchased a Fonera, and being able to access fon has been a huge benefit, especialy when ive been abroad, and been able to conenct to fon wifi on my phone, combined with a Voip account = extremely cheap calls to the UK, ( as well as no data roaming charges)
