Hi all
I'm trying to buy an external hard drive but don't know what to look for or what price to pay for an 80gb drive. I have the following spec at £70+ VAT is this any good?
Freecom Tough Drive pRO 2.5" usb 2.0. Internal anti-shock mechanism insulating the hard drive from shock. Integrated USB cable, USB-buspowered no power adapted needed. Fanless design.
Urgent help needed please I need to transfer data asap.
Many thanks

I usually buy from here as prices are reasonable. Certainly order online - you'll pay a fortune in standard shops like PC world.Throwing acid is bad.... in some peoples eyes...0 -
The one you are describing sounds like a portable hard drive. do you need a portable one or just one that will stay in one place connected to a desktop PC? If you don't need a portable one you can get something like this

for less money with a far greater capacity.
Let us know exactly what you need the drive for and people will be able to advise you. It's my problem, it's my problem

Thanks all.
Bill yes, I am looking for a portable one. I am looking to transfer data from one dodgy laptop to another and use it to back up music/photos.

A word of warning, the old laptop might not provide you with enough power to power the drive - can't say for sure as it depends on the laptop.0

I have a freecom 2.5" portable drive. It's USB powered but they will send you a free power adaptor if your computer is too old to power it through USB.
I got it from PC World - 80GB for £65 or there abouts.0 -
I would have thought that all external hard drives would be described as 'portable'. Mine is an external hard drive about the size of a small hardback book - surely that's portable.
There's a 250gb at amazon for less than £50 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Elements-250GB-External/dp/B000MES2UE/ref=sr_1_1/026-8919718-7527613?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1177427907&sr=1-1I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
