Buying furniture for a rented property

Hi all,
This may be in the wrong place, but I'm not absolutely sure where else to put it, so forgive me for that.
I'm moving into an unfurnished flat and am wondering what the best thing to do about furniture is.
I've got absolutely nothing and I don't have a huge budget. Gumtree has been my friend in the past, but I want to move to some slightly newer, better quality things and am wondering, if anyone has done this before, what advice they'd offer.
Thanks in advance!

I love adventures. Unfortunately, I don't get to go on them nearly enough. My simple solution? - To indulge in the digital artefacts of the adventures of others. Feel free to indulge in them with me.

We get our furniture from the British Heart furniture shop. Good prices!0

Are you able to ask friends/family if they have any spare furniture that you can get by on for now then upgrade as and when your budget allows.
Sometimes unfurnished properties do supply white goods (washing machine, fridge/freezer etc) so it's worth checking, you might not need these things.
Also do you have a Freecycle in your area, it's amazing the items that people offer for free, you can also post a wanted message. You do often need the means to collect the items though.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Another vote for the British Heart Foundation their prices are reasonable and usually excellent quality. Also other charity shops might be good my friend got a decent dining table and chairs in pine for 90 quid. Good luck.0

A third vote for british heart foundation shops. Also google to find other charity shops in your area that are furniture only ones as there are some smaller charities that do them too.
I have a friend that volunteers in one and he is amazed by the great quality of some of the stuff that they get in.0 -
BHF sounds like a win to me.
Also, I'd completely forgotten about Freecycle! Will have to check this out.
We've got the washing machine and fridge sorted out thanks to the other-half's parents, so we don't need to worry about those.

Don't forget ebay. Just go onto the home section and then sort by 'distance nearest first' and you can see what is available in your area. There are some great bargains available.
GLIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

you could alsi try places like ikea for reasonably priced new things....
Go for things like clothes rails rather than wardrobes as they are much cheaper and you can fit quite a lot on one,and cover it with a net curtain if you need to stop the clothes getting dusty...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Thanks for all the answers!
As was mentioned previously, do check what's going to be in the flat first. Many 'unfurnished' properties will have all the white goods in the kitchen.0 -

Yeah, we've done all the research for the property. It has plumbing for a washing machine and no white goods. Thanks for the heads-up though!I love adventures. I personally think it's worth spending money on a good bed because of the time you spend there, but you can maybe look at cheaper items for things like tables or bookcases.
In terms of white goods, some places do have refurbished ones, and it may be worth a look at those. You can always replace at a later date as necessary.0
