I see the only day supermarkets are shut is Xmas day. They are open on Boxing Day. When do the staff get a rest. Can they not just close for 2 days out of the year??

Its the same for the retail outlets though isnt it, boxing day sale starts 9am why? let people have 2 days off for Christmas, surely if you have money to spend from christmas you can spend it on 27th.

My mum works in a supermarket and has HAD to work 6 out of the last 7 boxing days. She has always commented that it isn't people popping in to get necessities like bread/milk etc that she sees a lot of, it is people going in to by things they can surely go 1 more day without, like washing powder and bin liners!Expecting Baby No 1 - 20/06/14 - Team Yellow!0

OK. I confess - I've been to a supermarket on boxing day.
Anyone who had my mother-in-law staying for the Christmas break would also use any excuse to get out of the house alone ( she sees going for a walk as "entertainment", therefore would expect to join me). Going for a solitary stroll round Asda on the pretext of buying more sprouts or vodka is infinitely better than feigning serious illness and spending the afternoon in A&E:D0 -
I work at Sainsburys. and we're closed on Boxing Day. Whoo hoo !! :-)

I go depending on what they have on sale, most supermarkets advertise there sale items online on xmas day.
Last year i got a 42" toshiba lcd tv for £275 from Asda, i got the last one and they got no more stock in after that. The tv still retails above £500.
Generally i dont go for food on boxing day.0 -
If the supermarket thinks it can take £50 it will open---it's all in the needs of the business you see.
Some are shutting at 6pm on Christmas Eve, the staff are expected to stay until 10pm and then back in on Boxing Day for the poor ickle customers who are like junkies and HAVE to go shopping.
I swear, half this country is addicted to shopping.:mad:0 -
