Shameful sky - can I get any compensation?

Hi, can you please advise me on the following? I took a day off to be at home so the engineer arranged for by Sky could come and connect me. Nobody came and nobody rang at all. They have rebooked the appointment for January so I will be without the Internet over Christmas. They don't want to give me any compensation for anything. Surely, that is not write. I have spoken to different departments but they will not compensate me even though I wanted a whole day off work. What can I do? I did say they breeched the contract but they refuse to pay.

Connect you how, if its a new telephone line then Sky would have placed an order on BT Openreach.
Have they offered any explanation of what went wrong? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
The engineer (sky arranged it with BT) was supposed to set up my line and broadband. They just said the engineer did not come and did know why.0

Personally, I would say if you're not happy, get rid and go with someone else.
But then I've started taking a more hard-lined stance with companies who mess me around.
I had far worse from Talk Talk, who never bothered connecting my broadband for 7 months, when I was given a lead time of 4-6 weeks when I placed my order, a few years back.
And Sky, I had 4 visits arranged to install my dish, 2 of which were called off due to weather (once for snow which was fair enough and once for a little rain...), another one I was given no explanation and the final one I eventually got the installation...I had my order cancelled and reinstated, which cut off my broadband and telephone line afterwards though!
Back then, I persevered with them because it was a good deal at the time and had no further problems once everything was in.
I ended up getting a credit on my account, plus a cut-price Sky package and free Sports and Movies for a few months for all the hassle.
Basically, my advice is don't take things like this lying down.
If there is a tangible cost for you taking a day off work to help them fulfil their end of the contract and they fail to show up, with no explanation, then you should look to have that cost returned, whether it is in the form of package additions or credits to your account.
Make sure you know the equivalent cost of taking the day off and then make sure they know it.
If they don't budge, look elsewhere.
If you feel you're getting treated badly before it's even installed, then what expectation for good service can you have in x months time if something goes wrong?0
