disappointing bouquet

I did ask for a box as it would be a few hours until mum got them home but they suggested a bubble of water at the bottom which sufficed.
As stated before I think £30 is quite an amount and should merit a decent display. I was happy with the size of the bouquet just disappointed with the lack of style and splendour.
That's fine, me saying £30 is not enough it's not a criticism of you. £30 for a gift of any type is generous but I do feel flowers are ridiculously expensive for what you get and saying you needed to bulk it out with more roses led me to believe that the quantity was lacking.
It's a shame they didn't put it in a box, it sounds like bad advice all round from the shop.0 -
As it happened a couple of bunches of budding roses (2 for £5) made the bouquet look so much better. OH slotted them in around the original bouquet and it did the trick. I was just upset we had to resort to that.0

Thank you all so much for your replies.
I realise now I should have complained when I picked the bouquet up particularly as I specified some roses (they put ONE in) and some tinged carnations which they didn't put in although there were other carnations.
In hindsight I should have gone to the florist I have previously been very happy with and I should have taken notice of the flowers in the shop I chose as if they have half-dead flowers on display they are the ones which will end up in a bouquet!0 -
I agree with the OP £30 is more than sufficient to create something lovely.
Lots of florists are attached to interflora and I think that really puts the price up...if you can find a small independant one then they do offer much better value for money.
We are lucky to have a local one who operates out of a log cabin in our local shopping centre and last week I bought a small hand tied bunch with roses, baby daffodils and some green filler for £11.....they had larger hand tied in water bunches for £20 which were similar in size to some of the interflora offerings around £30frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
OH used to get me a bouquet Valentine's Day and on our anniversary from the local florist. There were some lovely bouquets the first few times and then he got one that just wasn't up to scratch and for the price he was paying, I felt very aggreived on his behalf. I love flowers and realistically the local florists is the only place he could get them from - he doesn't go to our nearest big town - but I am really cross with the woman for letting him down. I expect it would fairer to her and nicer for me to tell her, so that she would have a chance to make amends, but I haven't. He buys me flowers sometimes when we are out for the day when we see a nice flower shop instead.0

I would have just said to them, "Please can you put some flowers in it" when I picked it up.
£30 is more than adequate to spend on an arrangement."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I think £30 is more than enough to get a decent display.
The girl did ask how much I wanted to spend and I said around £30 as I have always done if I went to a florist and I have always been very pleased with the results.
If I was told they could do an amazing display for £40 I would have paid that.....£30 was a ball-park figure.
For £30 I certainly didn't expect to have to go to a supermarket to get some flowers to make a bouquet look half decent.
I didn't mean to criticise you it's just that, based on my experience, you don't get a lot for £30.0 -
I'd get hold of the florist and explain why you were unhappy with them and see what the response is.
Aldi have some amazing bouquets in for only £15 and tesco, supermarket flowers have come on a long way or try online florists.
I used iflorist for funeral flowers last minute (48 hours before) as my film had forgotten the casket flowers for mil's funeral.
Have to say I was very worried as to what would arrive but they were just like the photo online and great quality, I'd use them again.0 -
Having had my 'nasty' florist experience I'm now learning how to arrange flowers. And the language of flowers. We'll definitely be giving the best and most correct arrangements from now on!0
