Hi

I am hoping someone has some advice.

DD has a iphone4 (since April) shes on the dolphin package where we top up £10 a month and she gets so much texts, internet etc. She had £46 worth of credit the last time I checked start of Dec. She has now got nothing left.

Ive checked her bill and we have all these charges

GPRS ap-prepaidsessio

on her recent usage. I am hoping someone can explain why this is has just started to happen, Orange were no help whatsoever. They said to keep the internet off all the time unless she wanted to use it. That her free allowance had been used up so they had started to charge.

Here is an example of the charges.

18/12/12 14:13 GPRS ap-prepaidsessio 1439.0 5.65

18/12/12 14:12 GPRS ap-prepaidsessio 1439.0 5.65

I think she must have been trying to download something.

I am hoping that we can switch off whatever feature that is causing this to happen.

We are pretty clueless with mobile phones etc.

Thanks for reading :-).

I have no idea what these £5.65s are, but GPRS refers to mobile data usage.

When did she top up and how much?
She gets free mobile data only for a month after topping up. The amount of data depends on the amount topped up: http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/plans/paygPlanList.jsp?_requestid=3356

iPhone is probably the most data-hungry phone around. Unless your wife spends most time on WiFi she need at least 500Mb and has to be very careful with using mobile data for downloading/streaming music/video. Out-of-allowance charges are £0.65/Mb.
Switch all automatic updates off and do them manually only on WiFi.

That said, there are much better deals around for mobile data than Orange PAYG.
Giffgaff, Virgin mobile (sim-only contracts), Ovivo, Three.

I put £10 on her phone which is the dolphin orange 10 package. With it being an iphone she gets more than the normal internet allowance. It has been sufficient for her for over 6 month, not sure why it is happening now.

Its an orange iphone bought as pay as you go, is it easy enough to change to another network? Thank You

Orange and iPhone for free? I think they charge £20 even pay monthly customers and take ages to unlock (not to supply the code)
  • I paid £15 - but this was back in the day when it was cool to rock a 3Gs. They didn't tell me it was done, about a fortnight after asking I had to sync the phone and got the unlock message.
