I have just had a phonecall from sky offering me their phone, tv and broadband package for £7.50 for 2 months then £15 for 10 months. There is free virus protection for 12 months, free wireless router, free sky box etc.
I'm wondering if anyone uses their service already? Can you recommend it or not?

The reason I'm considering it is because DH has been on at me for 10 years to get sky and has said that he wants it before he does the front room. It should be a £75 saving on our current broadband over the year but would mean I needed to get a laptop.

My main questions are what kind of laptop do you laptop users use and how much should I look at spending?

What kind of laptop? Be clear on what you are going to use it for, whether you are going travel much and if requirements may change. PM me and I'll try and help you.

SKY (£53 for me - WOW!) - I have the free broadband but I don't use it. I have the full package and the free phone calls all of the time (UK only) for £5 a month.

SKY TV - EXCELLENT - Wouldn't be without it.
Phone - Never had a problem in 4 months.
Broadband - I'm not convinced by it but the I'm sure the connection drops every so often (It's with BT and I have to pay the line rental - £10). As I'm not a regular user I really can't say it's OK or not. My main broadband is with Telewest (Now virgin) at £18 a month and it is absolutely brilliant. Never had a problem and very fast.

  • Just reduced my 24 year term mortgage to 18 years! Only costing me £57pm more... I feel its better to change the term than faf about with overpayments as you dont see the immediate result overpaying. Everytime I get a payrise I am going to knock off a fews. Hopefully with have mortgage paid off in no time. Its not just the interest saved, but all the MPPI and Life cover premiums too. Worked out saved £16k in all by reducing 6 years...

    Hiya all,
Well i have my new money box now its a beautiful cow called moo lol very original i know. Tomorrow being last day of month and payday going to put £80 into mortgage payment i already pay an extra £50 a month so very pleased with this.We were going to go to sky but are still with virgin and they knocked £20 a month of price so that has gone in the kitty. Another idea i had to save the pennies was everyday look at my balance online in my current account and put whatever pennies are left into another esavings acc. Will try this for the month of June and see how it adds up i am also adding £1 here and there as well so hopefully should have £100 extra at least in June.
how are you all doing this month?

Thats a good idea - kind of Lloyds TSB "Save the Change" DIY Style. I'm gonna give this a try. Wont be massive but as your granny used to say "Look after the pennies, the pounds look after themselves" :T

I do this but transfer all the odd pennies in to the mortgage account directly.

It resulted in a mortgage statement that was 3 pages long last year:rotfl: and I had only been doing it for about 8 months then!

Are Lloyds doing this again (where your change from transactions is put in a separate account and they will match it?). Friend and I were all set to spend our lives in Asdas on the serve yourself tills, buying a penny worth of grapes at a time and getting 99p out of Lloyds every transaction. Didn't do it when we realised:
    a) they had a limit on it
    b) we couldn't afford the up front costs. :o
