    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi all,

James10999 - Welcome to the forum.

Well in search of methods of making a bit extra here and there, I have successfully applied for the Egg Money card to do a bit of stoozing with. They have given me a £12k limit. Need to apply for my 0% bt card next. This should help me raise a few quid over the next 6 months or so for little effort.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Thanks to Amazeum, LimeyCat, Frugalnottight and Pink Fairy for your PM's. We now have 33 on the chat and it is looking good.

I will do an update again on the 5th JUne to take into account the people who hasn't got their balances for May. Then perhaps we could do the next one by say mid July.

May I just say well done to everyone I think it is hard to resist temptation but once the money is paid into the mortgage at least it is that much harder to get hold of it again.

Superfastgran I fully understand you need a new car if the old one was costing you to much it can make sense. Hope you enjoy it and dont meet too many Gastsos.

I am off to Denmark tomorrow my friends wedding is on Saturday and my dad has sorted her present out so I dont have to worry about that. My lovely mother was offered to drive us to the reception and pick us up so that will save us a very expensive taxi drive.

My sisters baby was due the 20th and I was hoping she would have had it by now so fingers crossed something will happy soon. She already has a 3 year old boy so we were all hoping for a girl. I would love to know before I leave so I can go shoping for pink stuff.

Take care all I will post the new chart next

  • Hello

Welcome to all the newbies!! - And congratulations to everyone on the massive amount paid off the total already !! BIG PAT ON THE BACK

I've made a change to our finances. I have been invited into a Partnership Scheme with work. Basically, im able to purchase £125 of shares for £85 (taken pre Tax and NI from wage) My emplyer also give me £30 'free shares' I have to keep the partnership shares for a minimum of 3 years before the 'free shares' become my own. For the shares to become Tax + NI Free, they have to be kept for 5 years. Im bascially turning £1029 (after Tax and NI wage) into £1850 per year (assuming all remains equal)

As a result, i will not start seeing the benefit for 5 years (each month thereafter) but fell this is the correct way to go. Done some sums (click here) and seems a 'No Brainer'

    Im learning!! :rotfl:

    Hi All Questees!
Our title deeds arrived today, and at last it really does feel like we own our house outright. I held my breath as I turned each old faded parchment...I need to get a pair of those white cotton gloves to protect the old paper. One interesting thing leapt out at me (Oh how quickly we forget!)...our mortgage rate in 1982 was...wait for it...14.5%. I wondered why we were always living on baked potatoes and own label baked beans...retrospect is a great thing.
Very impressed with the latest update from TallGirl...well done all Questees, and doesn't it make such encouraging reading for anyone teetering on the brink of indecision. Go for it!

Don't forget, as they say in the ads, the value of shares can go down as well as up. I did this with my former employer a few years ago, a huge multinational manufacturer of trains, gas turbines, cruise liners, etc. I bought £360-worth on a BOGOF offer, costing me £180. It seemed like a no brainer at the time. Then they discovered a major fault in the design of the gas turbines, a customer of several liners went bust and couldn't pay for the ships and the UK rolling stock market bottomed out. By the time I could sell them, I think I got about €8 back. The company had had to do another share issue, diluting the value of the shares, which had literally become penny shares by the time I could sell them. I was one of the lucky ones. I knew people who had invested thousands.

    Good luck with them TYAE!

Thanks for the welcomes and to Tallgirl for adding me to the list.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I've just set up a standing order to pay an extra £50 per month off my mortgage. It's actually never felt so good to be setting up a payment out of my bank account!! WooooHoooo!!
