Will there be a new thread set up for those who have completely paid off their mortgages after the pay your mortgage in 3 years challenge is over? like what are you doing with that extra money that you used to put off your mortgage, or next goals to achieve in 3 yrs etc?

I am planning to head over to the Savings Board on MSE to learn about how to invest and save all that money I would usually chuck at the mortgage.

I have had 4 more updates from people who missed this chart, if I get up to 10 I will post the chart again. Also note that the people in blue really should have come off as they have not updated since Oct 08 so come on this is your last chance.

    @ FZwanab / all,

There's always the mortgage free in three take 2 MFiT-T2 challenge, for those of you who won't clear their mortgage at the end of this challenge and fancy another 3 year challenge. :D

Only small issue is that you will need to register by December 2009, so that everyone gets a chance at a 3 year challenge, which I think is fair.

    More details here:

Note: I've deliberately kept MFiT-T2 low key on this thread - I'm not out to poach anyone. In reality, there is only about 3 months overlap between the two challenges!

Probably not- we'll all be off sunning ourselves on our round the world cruises, or out for a spin in the new Lambo, or maybe down the pub for another glass of bubbly

There's a thread on this board somewhere about what ppl are planning once they are mortgage free.

    Ha,

I knew that negative sign on the MFiT chart would mean that something had to happen!!

My OH has just got a job offer. Not sure on salary yet, but expect it will be enough for us to tread water :)

    A happy FG

ps Have just showed OH the fact that we are the only negative sign people on the chart. He is making black humoured comment about starting gun going off, and us running in the wrong direction. He reckons maybe FreedomGirl is more about spending the money :) Well, TBH, we have spent it on getting free from some seriously bad job situations

He has just made comment "oh sorry, was MFIT about paying it off?? oops"

Don't feel too downhearted FG. Lets be honest, yours isn't the biggest mortgage on the list is it? Lots of us would happily trade our own mortgage for yours, even though it has increased ever so slightly over the course of the challenge.

The important thing to realise is that all of us on the list, whether we are making small steps or massive inroads, have recognised that our mortgages are actually debts and we can take positive steps to early repayment. I reckon that the majority of people just think of their mortgage as a monthly payment they have little control over. That mindset change is the first step.

    Well done on OH's job!

I was one of the ones that got to pay off their mortgage during this challenge.

I was able to quit the job I hated and do what I want to do - concentrating on refurbishing the house and doing some voluntary work for a local charity.

I may go back to work at some stage - who knows!?!

Paying off the mortgage was the best feeling ever and I hope more of you get there - by the looks of things, I don't think I have anything to worry about!!!!!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
