Haha, mountainlioness, you're the only one on here who is allowed to post that 1+1 = 3 :p Normally we can count better than this!

Congratulations:j can anyone remember, is this the first MFi3 baby, or has there been another? irc there's another little cherub out there....?

Ikea is wonderful for simple cheap furniture, the local paper and freecycle are great of you want to go the second hand route, and friends and relatives will be very happy to have a clear out.

Just one thing I am very glad I shelled out for - a changing unit that looked a bit like a cupboard - it saved lots of back pain, kept baby's stuff tidied away bewtween nappy changes, and is still in use 10 years later as our DD's bookcase. Money well spent, imho.

Travle systems weren't around in my DD infancy, we had a car seat, and a pram that was half price from Mothercare at £80, swung the handle from front to back so baby could face alternate directions. Nowadays it seems quite normal to be expected to pay about £600 for something baby will only be in for a few months then you discover a buggy is really light and durable, and can be taken on holiday too, and that the car seat can stay in the car and the baby is actually mobile!;)

    Hope you're blooming marvellously!! :D

I think Thankyouandenjoy was the first with Charlie about a week into the challenge. I know there have been more along the way, Weezl had a little boy Fergus last week. Neither of these seem to post on here any more though.

Congratulations on the forthcoming arrival of your Cub, mountainlioness and mountainlion!

    Hi all

Long time no post from me! We haven't been overpaying for a while as we're on an uncollared +0.38 tracker and Mr Martin's OP tool said it wasn't worth it... though with savings rates plummeting, we might change our minds soon...

But enough of that - I have news!!

We're expecting our first in September!! :D

All very exciting... and also expensive.... so we're trying to save manically for the next 6 months so we're in a good position. Trying not to fall into the trap of buying everything that the baby mags say you need, and brand new, so we're hoping to be relatively MSE about it. The major outlay will be the travel system, which needs to be super compact to fit in the boot of my car, which we're def not changing (DH has an estate anyway, so at least one of them is a bit more family friendly)

Hope you're all well - just wanted to share!

Congratulations to Mountainlioness! What wonderful news.:j

I haven't posted on here for aaages, but I'm still here, plugging away at getting the mortgage paid off. I have done quite well so far but my balance may take a bit of a hit as we pay for our wedding in June this year. I'm pretty sure it will only be a 'blip' though and we are still aiming to get the balance as low as possible during the three years.

I asked a question on the mortgage board but have had no replies so thought I'd come and ask you guys your advice instead ;) Do any of you have a oneaccount and what do you think of it? My fixed rate runs out in June and I am thinking of getting one, as another fixed rate would seriously limit my overpayment ability (10% a year with current lender). Hope you don't mind me asking here, I am part of the challenge ;):D

bebenandme - we just use our ordinary mortgage which as no overpayments limit - it's a tracker with Co-operative we've had it since a month after this challenge started, we'd been with Co-op previously for their fixed rate, and luckily decided on this tracker with no tie-ins when the previous deal came to an end. We can take our money out or pay it in as we please, no charges, just a phone call to a UK call centre.Never had a problem with them yet.:j

On the whole, we tend to not keep too much money in the current account, have regular overpayments set up to be paid off monthly, and are good at stashing any extra dosh somewhere better on a regular basis.

The One account does this pretty automatically, so you're always earning mortgae interest on any money you have in the bank.

however, you MIGHT pay a higher interest rate for this privelige, so to cut this reply short, if you're good with money there are cheaper options widely available, if you're not that organised then a One type account might be for you.

http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1193206377209,CFSweb/Page/Bank-Mortgages is where we go. there may be cheaper, similar offers around.

    hope this helps.
