It's all gone! Checked yesterday and OH salary had gone in taking us just over the zero amount for the first time and checked again today and my salary has gone in meaning that is we are very frugal we might make it until next payday without going back under so . . . WE ARE EFFECTIVELY MORTGAGE FREE! :j

I was keeping some e-savings (theoretically) seperate but with the rates so low it didn't make any sense so it's now all gone against the mortgage.

Bit of an anti climax really - might have a fish supper to celebrate! Logged into the one account - my interest rate is 0.1% - they are paying me so yes I was also annoyed with the letter . . . but not any more!

Just need to work out where to open a savings account as we haven't had any for the last few years!

Thank you all for your help in staying focused - it is a huge relief to know that we don't have to worry about paying the mortgage in the current climate!

Well done :T. Doesn't it feel good to be mortgage free!

  • The £10 fee isn't necasarily charged, it depends on your mortgage. They have told me I don't have to pay it.
If you pay a larger figure in and they recalculate, then they will charge - but, if you tell them not to recaclculate then thete is no charge

    Well done you, minimooooo!

Isn't it great having people appear and announce they are mortgage free,

even though we still have 1 day 1 month and 1 year left of the challenge...it's amazing how it's got a grip of so many people and they've exceeded their wildest hopes and paid it all off!!!

We're hoping to be officially mortgage free later this year, even though DH laughed at me when I first signed up for this challenge....

:j :j Also a big well done from me, it is so inspireing to read post like that. People who never though it was possible to be MF in 3 years and look now how many we have after 2 years.

Nearly into March now, amazing how quickly time goes - it will soon be time for another update.

  • Thanks for all your messages . . . don't think it has quite sunk in yet! And I've been in the habit of being frugal for so long that we actually had a chip tea last night . . . . from the freezer!!! :rotfl:

Will have to try harder - after all its not spending money that got us into this recession ahem

Just been showing this post to DH - Hughmungas - he wants to know what other suggestions you have ;) (He's had a drink!!!)

I will be hanging around to see how you all get on and am looking forward to your updates as well. I was inspired by the pay off your mortgage in 2 years program but I thought it was a completely unrealistic timeline - just shows what you can do if you put your mind to it!
