Was chatting to a Mum at school about what I've got in fruit wise. She said we'll have to set up a little trade off in the summer where she swaps eggs (duck) for fruit!
You can't put a price on that lifestyle, KazSounds wonderful.
For those of you who are losing motivation, take a look at the chart and see how well you did in the first year. Did you make it to a third, a quarter, or maybe half? Do you need to reset yourselves a challenge of catching up to where you should be? Or maybe you've done so well you want to sit back a bit for a couple of months and enjoy the feeling. Set a date when the basking in glory will stop, and set a new target that's harder to obtain if last year's seemed to be easier than you though possible.
(We're thinking along lines of 40th birthdays now, as well as the April 2010 end-date. DH is 40 in May 2009, I am Jan 2010, would like to be MF before hubby is 41!)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
Balance 19th April '07 = minus £27,640
Balance 1st November '09 = mortgage paid off with £1903 left over. Title deeds are now ours.0 -
It has been really helpful to read the recent messages about other people finding it hard to keep motivated. I don't mean that I am glad that other people are finding it hard, just that it is great to know that I am not the only one (IYSWIM!)
This is only my opinion, but I think that it helps when we all keep posting with our news of our little moves forward. Even if you haven't paid off anything/ much for a little while, it is really encouraging to hear that all round the group, more and more is being paid off.
Someone suggested a "What small thing have you done today" update as they have on the DFW board. I think that is a super idea. I will start one today and see if it catches our imagination.
This is a fab team and I am really pleased to be part of it.

Hi guys someone has started a petition to get Ml a knighthood.:D0 -
I agree, all the posts about small steps are a great idea and it helps knowing that mini successes are occurring all the time
So to try and help I have had a look at my spreadsheet based on the chart as at 1st April 2008 if everyone can 'find' 3p a minute then all our targets will be achieved come 1st April 2010The only slight downside to this is we need to find 3p per minute every minute of the day!
If people would like me to work out a personal target based on information as at 1st April 2008 then let me know and I'll put something together.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
I am feeling very skint but all the scary stories about house price crashes/ possible repossessions are making me feel very glad I've started down this route.
Not being in that situation / or being able to ride out a recession motivates me to keep going when I'm starting to wonder whether all the penny pinching is worth it¬!:DMember of mortgage free in 3. £13,000ish to go on mortgage but now running out of  money! Hard slog for this last bit!0 -
Have added the extra columns to the spreadsheet and 35 people need to 'find' a penny or less a minute, so c'mon find those lucky pennies
:D:D

I haven't been around for a while as I've finally started a new job, but it means being away from home during the week (boo) and I can't get teh new broadband connection up and running yet!
I've made some major impacts on the mortgage in two ways - I've finally cashed in my endowment which was underperforming but I did get £24,000, which appeared in my bank account one day (not even a cheque in the post!) and so was transferred straight over to the mortgage. Also, I was mis-sold a small policy, which had a surrender value of £2,000 but the refund of premiums plus interest came to £3,000.
Now it will all slow down for me as I have no more aces up my sleeve, and a wedding in July to pay for! It's just the 'normal' overpayments for me for a good while, but keep it up everyone. As the supermarket says, every little helps,Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
have had trouble keeping up with the forum/threads recently - too much work and too little money-saving!
the pickings seem to be smaller and harder to come by recently. i know i have some longer term plans, but it's hard waiting for them to come to fruition.
re. the money-saving books. i can't re-read mine as i always sell them on ebay when i've read them:rolleyes: . mind you with the last one i actually made my money back, so i can't complain!
ebay is a bit hit and miss, but there has been the odd nice surprise. i just need to get motivated to list more.......
two months to go until the next 'hit' - keep going everyone!;)0 -
Some more book recommendations from me:
David Bach: Start Late, Finish Rich
Jim Slater & Tom Stevenson: How To Become A Millionaire
I found both very approachable, easy to understand and realistic.

I wanted to read the start late finish rich book but I've never found it on ebay or amazon at a price I'm willing to pay!
I may get round to selling my other David Bach book when I find it and I've re-read it!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
