    I've just made another payment of - £15 (and no I haven't missed a 0!).
Oh well its still a step in the right direction.

We will be decorating our lounge after Christmas so have been looking out for a new fireplace. At the moment we have a 1930's tiled monstrosity. We have a 1905 house so it doesn't go well at all.
If we are succesful getting it out intact then my friend is going to have it for her 1930's house.
We had a look in a fireplace shop and I saw a lovely one reduced to £749 which I thought was fab until I saw the other price tag for the mantle and hearth of £890!
So I had a look on ebay at their fireplaces and there are some lovely ones on there where the whole package is much cheaper. I was interested to see that quite a few fireplaces had a soot flap (I think that's what it was called) and I think that it would reduce the drafts quite a lot.
At the moment we have a board that we sick into the fireplace when it's not in use and that cuts down the draft a huge amount.
    Merry Christmas everyone.

  • A quick update from me.

We have managed to reduce our total debt to under £30k for the first time!:j

OK its £29 k, but we are really pleased that we have more than halved our debt in 2007!

For us the next year is going to be the really big challenge......
We need to undertake some work on our house which will cost upwards of £20k and in addition we need to buy some furniture for a current empty room - that going to cost £5k as its needs total redecoration, a new suite, side tables lights and a new carpet.

I will be getting the paint brush out over Christmas!

Well done to every one and a Merry Christmas :xmassmile
  • An update from me.

When the monthly payment comes out on 1st January and the first £600 overpayment is made on the 2nd January our balance will be down to £133,004.

We've just about finished the budget for 2008 which allows us to make £600 overpayments every month as well as save a little bit in an ISA. We do need a small amount of work doing in the house and we are including this. Full budget will be posted on my blog by the end of the week.

Have a great Christmas everyone and a very MFW 2008 :D

  • Happy Boxing Day - avoid the sales unless you really need it!

I wanted to start my MFi3 challenge so I've managed to make my first overpayment of £500 from this month's wages (got some expenses refunded) - £14,500 to go!
