Still going to stick to invidividual shares though rather than funds.

lol, I hope you do a better job of it than me and OverlandLandy! It was such good fun when I first invested and my shares went up 10% - not so much fun when they went down by 20%!!
Still, while the stockmarket is down it's the best time to buy - though I'd still recommend a fund - the fund managers buy the individual shares and have a bit more of an idea what they're doing, certainly more than I do at any rate.:rotfl:
p.s. OverlandLandy - my pension is held in an L&G stakeholder that I access online to see how well/bad it's doing on a daily basis. It has lost a bit of value, but that also means I can get more for the money I invest on a monthly basis. What we need is a stockmarket depression for the next 25 years, followed by the biggest stockmarket boom in the history of the world just before I buy my annuity!!Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Has anyone used Zopa (https://www.zopa.co.uk, social lending site) as a way of getting a better interest rate? I've put a £100 in & will give it a go if I can get around 8%.
I nearly bought some Lloyds shares a few months back, glad I didn't now  scary times out there at the mo .A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Often thought about loaning money out through Zopa but there is something at the back of my head (and I don't have a lot of grey stuff) that tells me not to - and if it makes me feel uneasy then I don't do it, but thats just me.

Hi, you're one lucky person then. I'd perhaps suggest that you've missed a zero off there?;)
My holding 1,000 shares - peak of 12.51 ie, 12,510
Same holding @ close of play today price 97p = 970. Loss of 11,540
Holding at rumoured nominal 10p per share offer for company = 100. Loss of 12,410.
Staggering. Just mind bogglingly staggering losses :eek::eek:
Would have made an impressive dent in mortgage - it's now looking very grim that I'll get any amount worth writing home about back.
One small consolation is that these were conversion freeebies. Oh well, such is life.

Sorry to hear of your losses OL--maybe there is still hope yet:rolleyes:

I would suggest that far from a loss FB you have made/will make a pofit when you sell those shares irrespective of how much you get for them as you didn't pay anything for them. I am guessing as well that you have had the benefit of a dividend on them since they were given to you. Any profit prior to the current situation has been a paper profit.
Having said that I would feel cheated as well if I held NR shares and was contemplating selling or needing to sell to realise some cash. I hold some shares that are now worth 50% less than their highest figure and I too feel cheated and perhaps should have sold them back then. DH said sell at the high point and I said 'no they'll go up and we don't need the cash now' I automatically reinvest my dividend payments each year to increase my share holding and whilst I have no immediate need for the cash I shall just sit tight. Whilst the share price is low then the dividend buys even more share and when the value rises then the holding will be worth even more. I firmly believe that everything will turn full circle and things will improve financially for us all.
The important thing is that they are not my only source of cash and I do have emergency savings for those curved balls life throws every now and again. Just my tupennthOfficial Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0
