    I want to join!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paid off £1095 today out of off set direct to mortgage so into another thousand!

Going to try and empty freezer and cupboards and buy only the food I need.

Going to try cash!!! Putting food money into off sett tomorrow-payday and will draw cash each week and have a seperate food purse- anything left at the end of the month will go to pay the mortgage.

Ive been doing really well with my overpayments the last few months, but think the wheels are about to fall off there, the little one i look after starts school in September, and i havnt got a replacement lined up, so all my money will have to be going into my normal monthly payments, so dont think i will have any left over to overpay - hope everyone can keep their fingers crossed for me that i get some enquiries soon, so that i can get back on track with our quest!!!

If your local authority run a similar scheme to ours, then don't forget to fill in a form for your run on money. Childminders who loose a placement can apply to the early years section to have a run on of the money, a subsidy of income, until you fill the place for up to six weeks. Might be worth asking about? I used to childmind and used it once, came in very handy until i found another kiddie.
  • Hi Everyone!, welcome to crockpot and well done to ailuro2 for paying off more money.

I have been living very 'thriftily' this month and resisting the temptation to spend. Making do with whats in. I've just made another 6 jars of jam from the plums off our tree so thats another item off the shopping list! I must have 20 jars of jam now! It should come in handy as last minute pressies too as homemade jam is nice.

I'm still sticking with the 'peasant diet' and living off pulses, grains, beans etc and feeling better for it. I picked some vine leaves out of the garden today and we stuffed them with onions, rice and sunflower seeds (whatever we had in really...) and done them in the slow cooker. I usually use meat but I think this will be nice for a change.

Anyhoo, I've really slashed the food budget this month as its the last area of spending that can stand further cutbacks as all other areas of the budget is working as hard as it can for me.

Trying to work extra hours too to maximise income, OH is looking for another job too. I can really see an end to this mortgage...;)

Hubby is currently sorting out the top bedroom with a view to renting it out to visiting profs coming to the uni so hopefully a new source of income. Also looking forward to being paid for some writing I did for my old place of work - to go straight into the safari fund so we can make a deposit by the end of the year.

Ooh that's a great idea. I also work at a Uni and I'm also brassic after remortgaging after a break up. I thought about renting out the spare room but I was worried the money wont be worth the annoyance of having someone around under my feet all the time. I also didn't want to change the sofabed for a real bed. A visitor would not really stay long enough to be a problem and would know it was only a sofabed beforehand.

I know what you mean - hubby and I could never put up with someone sharing our 'space' full time but the odd month is def doable and should bring in a couple of hundred squid (straight off the mortgage has to be the deal!)

In terms of beds, we've just got a single bed off Freecycle and are adding some spare furniture we would have got rid of so you can equip a room for rent for nothing (or next to nothing). Sure a sofabed woud be fine too though :)

Working for a uni is great - have flogged loads of spare bits and bobs on our internal sales email list, plus the visiting profs plan - and of course looking forward to our Sept pay rise, which should ease things a bit in this house!

Thank you for that, im prob a bit late for today, but i think i will ring sure start in the morning, to see if they know anything about a run on grant/payment, would def come in handy if i dont get any interest in the next few weeks. They might even be able to help find a replacement for me!!!

Feel really exhausted at the moment, a bit despondent about the money. My fridge broke down - I never heard of a fridge breaking down before! - and I've actually found one on freecycle, but none of the man and van firms locally will touch it, for various reasons too boring to be listed. The last throw of the dice is to offer the freecycle guys £20 to bring it round. Otherwise, the recycling centre, and apart from that, its Comet. Sigh..........

  • Sorry to hear about your fridge-related woes :( Hope the freecycle guys come good, though unless you're miles away I'd have thought a nice cuppa and a slice of cake would get the delivery cost down hee hee (especially given the ethical stance of freecycle)

BTW was thinking that we could do with a 'chat' thread rather than always adding to the original MFi3 thread - just so we can catch up on what each other's doing without distracting from the main concept... also, how about some diary threads like in DFW?

    Hiya
I think it is fine to chat on here after all we are having to keep it going for 3 years. I love reading all the bits about how people make extra money and save extra money.
I have been internet shopping and gambling today but very MSE. Got £15 of my first order from Littlewoods so ordered 2 bra's for £18 - freee delivery. Would have got 6% cashback with Quidco on top but it would not let me use the voucher so phoned up instead. Signed up with Greasyplam and did one of their casino offers. Deposited £10 got £14.50 cash back and won a bit so cashed out £25 which is not bad.

Edit could not withdraw as I had not met the WR - played on and nearly got there but then lost it all. Hey it is at leave £4.50 profit.

Dinner is Spag bol for me and cottage pie for DH all from my batch cooking last weekend. Have had chicken for two nights now all for £3 so quite good.
Take care all have a nice evening.
