Afternoon all - just a conversational post as am having a v nice post-lunch relax with glass of wine on the sofa and was feeling like saying hello.
Have recovered a bit after yesterday's little 'moment' - felt so upset about the rejection. I know it isn't personal, but it does feel it sometimes, especially as am SO careful  but anyway...
Today has been v MSE, have made an apple and blackberry crumble with the one apple that our tiny tree has produced and blackberries off Freecycle! To be served later today after our Waitrose Friday-evening-bargain-bagging steak  (totally recommend this - they discount a lot more than other supermarkets - you get some seriously decent bits of meat, also bread, for almost nothing, whereas have noticed the discount areas in others are 20-50p off often)
Have also picked up some lovely Le Creuset saucepans off Freecycle too - we almost bought some the other day from TK Maxx, now we have 5 for free from the lovely lady down the road :T
Hubby is currently sorting out the top bedroom with a view to renting it out to visiting profs coming to the uni so hopefully a new source of income. Also looking forward to being paid for some writing I did for my old place of work - to go straight into the safari fund so we can make a deposit by the end of the year.
Anyway, how's everyone else getting on today?

Just another little MSE tip if you like Waitrose. You can claim John Lewis vouchers on Pigsback.com and they can be used in Waitrose. I had £40 left and we bought some lovely wine as a treat. Just cooking roast dinner and I think I shall have to open one of them. Nice to splash out when it has not cost anything.
Been really bored this weekend due to the rain so not played any golf or done the garden. Have tidied up a bit and chucked out lost of rubbish. Went to MS with DH to get some underpants. He only likes them and at buy one get one 1/2 price it is not too bad. He wants the £15 for 5 and some socks for £10 so that is £20 not bad. At the till she rings the pants in at £1 and the socks at £10 and says that is right. £11 what a bargan.

sorry to hear about you earnings - and the BG nightmare, just what you don't need. Hope things look up soon...
We haven't yet got the timings just right yet but about an hour before closing they seem to start to discount... we tend to buy bread for the freezer (gorgeous Crank's honey and sunflower for 20p) and meat. The steaks we had today hubby said were the best he'd ever got from a supermarket and they were about £2 each (though they were 2 inch thick fillet steaks, I think we've got rump steaks for a lot less). Also the bakery counter is good, danishes for 10p. Could never normally afford to shop there but the Friday evening bagging session has become a lion family regular!MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Hi Guys,
The British Gas sounds a nightmare Freebird, I've heard they are notorious for things like this, can't you change suppliers? You get paid to switch if you go through quidco or is it uswitch? I'm with Atlantic and for me its the cheapest and I get a months dd paid back every year. Just worked out I save over 100 quid per year using eco 7 so its worth taking th time to put the washer/dishwasher on at night.
Hi Tallgirl and Mountainlioness, good tip about Waitrose but there isn't one round here. I rely on supermarket bargains a lot and fill me boots if there's a reduction!
Nice find on freecycle with the creuset pans ML, I got a set when we got married and they are still going strong nearly 20 years later...use them all the time. I dropped lucky on freecycle today, DD wanted a desk and got a lovely pine one, chuffed to bits she was!
Enjoy the rest of your wine, nice chatting, off to watch tv now, back to the grind tomorrow...

Freecycle is just the best isn't it? I always try to spread the word too as so many people haven't been converted yet
Hope you all have a good evening - catch you in the week

Ive been doing really well with my overpayments the last few months, but think the wheels are about to fall off there, the little one i look after starts school in September, and i havnt got a replacement lined up, so all my money will have to be going into my normal monthly payments, so dont think i will have any left over to overpay - hope everyone can keep their fingers crossed for me that i get some enquiries soon, so that i can get back on track with our quest!!!0

:j :j Just paid another 2K off the mortgage, and we still have a nice little buffer left to pay for our trip to London in October.
The money is leftover money we didn't spend on holiday- we knew we'd have a bit left, but didn't add it to the mortgage before we went.
Phoned up today and added it though- means in a month or two we will be sub-20K. Yahhoooo!
(Can you tell I'm pleased- My mortgage is now down to about a single year's salary for me.)
