FWIW I concur with Macman's advice.

Sky is a better broadband proposition if you have Sky TV as you get a £2.50 discount off the £10 / month cost for LLU unlimited BB + line rental.

Also with some providers you can save on Line rental by paying 12 months up front e.g with Sky line rental is £14.50/ month, but £119.40 for 12 months up front.

    Good luck with the hunt.

    Why don't you want FTTC?

Is it not available on your exchange?

Thanks for the reply - How would I go about finding out if I could get FTTC? I've looked at the exchange and it says "available in some areas" but doesn't specify if it's available in mine.

Also, who provides this sort of service?

Plus.net. It's the hottest hotukdeal at the moment. £9.99 a month for 6 months followed by £19.99 a month plus £13.99 for the line rental plus £4.00 for unlimited anytime calls including calls to 0845/0870 numbers. An extra £2.00 a month will get you 300 minutes to call some international destinations. A very good deal. Free installation and a small delivery charge applies.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

All fibre providers are reselling BT's FTTC service. Just do a number check on the ISP you are interested in using to find out if FTTC is available on your cab yet.
PS: after 9 months of delays, we were finally due to get FTTC here by 31/12/12. I just checked again today and, guess what, it's been put back again to 31/3/13! The original date was 31/3/12. OR appear to be making up dates as they go along.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks again all.

I'll have to check on these and report back once I've moved in.

Have a great (insert your culture's closest celebration here)!

I'm getting FTTC tomorrow!* from Sky. As I'm already with Sky, I get £45 cashback, which just about covers the £50 fee. An extra £7.50 per month on my bill, so not too bad. Current speed on ADSL is 6 down, 0.6 up.

It wasn't available from my nearest BT cabinet until two weeks ago.

*If the Openreach engineer bothers to turn up - posts on BT and Sky forums indicate this is a bit of a problem....

Exactly the same here. Was just about to get my MAC from Demon and checked to see whether Infinity was orderable, and our date has been put back to 31/03/13 ... More annoying as the Infinity cab has been installed for the past 3 months (I watched them blow the fibre as its just across the road from the house), it's had power to it for over a month, and Openreach are there almost daily praying to it. Like you, we had an initial date of a year ago, and I did get a bit too 'excited' when I saw the cab go in. No idea what OR are up to, but their timescales do seem very arbitrary.

  • FTTC sounds like it's probably the best bet for me. I'll do a little research and report back here later with the findings!

Thanks again for all the help!
