  • We do lots of bits and bobs
*go to the local shop to buy a carrot for Rudolf with my girls
*i give my girls a small bag of things to keep them busy - includes a box of cake mix to make cakes for father xmas, money to go get the carrot, christmas colouring sheets, card to write for santa, the magic key to leave out, the stop here santa sign to put in the garden. the plate and cup for santa
*we watch a kid friendly dvd and have popcorn (this year is cbeebies xmas as have a 2 year old with short attention span!!!)
*I need to go to the local town to pick up some cupcakes a friend is making
    * we get all the presents out of the spare room to go under the tree
    * girls go to bed early with new pjs and a special new bubble bath (this year is m&s princess bath fizz - sale in july!!!)
*i prep the veg, make the sausages and bacon, stuff the turkey, find napkins/serving dishes etc etc etc when the kids have gone to bed
  • We go and buy a tree and come home and decorate the house and tree.

Family come for late lunch then dressing up in ancient nativity clothes and all go to the 3pm village nativity service (everyone dresses up) . Usually a gathering at a house or one of pubs after. Get back at 5 pm. Chestnuts, fire toast, stocking up, carrots ready etc etc

Play some games and then bed. adults usually wrapping last minute gifts before we eat some carrot, bite a mince pie, drink the Santa port put the meat in the aga and go to bed.

We usually have a walk round the shops enjoying the fact that we have done all our shopping then watch a Christmas film in the evening.
Normally I love Christmas Eve but this year ex and his mum have invited the kids round (without consulting me and finding out my plans) instead of their usual Boxing Day.
I normally go out with my mum on Boxing Day but that's been spoiled this year too.

Usually we start out in the pub next door, then around 6pm go outside our house into the village square along with a few hundred other people and the school brass band, singing carols around the village christmas tree. Then we sing Jingle Bells louder and louder until Father Christmas arrives magically through the chapel door with sweeties for all the kids. We live in the square and have no choice but to join in as the road is closed so that the band can march up from school and the square is choc full of people. It's amazing and always brings a few tears to my eyes.

After that we go across to some friends who put some food and drin on for a couple of hours, then it's home time so that all the kiddies can get to bed before FC arrives.

This year, though, we're going to see my Dad in Mijas so will miss all that. We'll be eating out I'm guessing.

  • Hi everyone

I love Christmas Eve, when everything has been bought and wrapped (and delivered if neccessary), and it is too late to worry about it. If we haven't got it by now, we don't need it!

Unfortunately I am working this Christmas Eve ( NHS - we never sleep! ), so won't be home until 7ish. DH and DD say they will wait for tea till I get home , so we eat together. DH is making one of his wonderful curries, with extras like bhajis, samosas etc. Mmmm!

So when I get home, we can open our Christmas Eve hampers. We all have new pjs, slippers, shower gel, something to drink (beer and cider for DH and DD, hot chocolate for me ), favourite chocolates, and a new book or magazine.

Then it's shower, into new pjs, and tea in front of the fire, watching something Christmassy on the television. We usually then play a game, maybe one of the "Scene it" ones, DD has a collection!

Just before we go to bed I will put stockings out for DH and DD - she may be grown up, but she still loves her stocking on Christmas morning! Hopefully I may get a stocking from Santa too :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas, and a happy new year!

    Hi everyone,

As much as I love Christmas day, I always think Christmas Eve is more special & exciting and out of curiosity was wondering how others chose to spend the day... Also..

    Merry Christmas Everyone :snow_laug :santa2:

Christmas Eve is my favourite day of the festive season! :T

Hubby is working until 4.30pm but I will be at home with the children. We have a Christmas Eve hamper containing:
    New pyjamas / slippers
    New toothbrushes
    Arthur Christmas DVD
    Cookie mix
    Colouring books/pencils
    Sweets
    Craft items

So our afternoon will be spent utilising the contents of the hamper. My mum will visit for a while and get the children hyped up lol. Once hubby gets in we will have dinner and watch the DVD, then it' s bath time, leave out cookies etc and off to bed, while we relax and watch tv (Mrs Brown's Boys special will be on):j I also set the dining table in the evening as well.

Once they are asleep we will sneak up the attic and . bring things down. I don't put anything out till after midnight though.:D

We leave the tree lights on all night when Santa has been but before I go to bed I take some time to just sit quietly to look at the lights/ parcels and appreciate how lucky I am and have a little think about people who won' t be with us this year. I know that sounds a bit soppy, sorry

I have a party for family and friends. Buffet and lots of wine! We used to eat Christmas dinner at my Mum's and Boxing Day at my bother and SIL's so it was no big deal to throw a big party as there was no other prep to think about. Now we have Xmas dinner at home after present-opening at Mum's and brother/SIL don't have their "do" so it's a lot more stessful!

The day is spent baking and tidying, setting everything out (fending off 2 dogs and 3 cats) and I do get a bit frazzled! Then everything has to be cleared away and washed up when everyone has left. I may be a bit squiffy by then, but usually prep veg and stuffing for Xmas dinner, wrap a few last presents, put pressies under tree for the morning...and get to bed about 2am.

We go to the cinema, we are going to see The Hobbit. We then have a takeaway for tea, or I may put a small buffet on, for myself, hubby and my 3 kids, 17, 12 and 9. Really looking forward to it.
