Any better packages out there?

I've come under a little bit of pressure at home to try and cut down on the quartly bill that we get from BT.

It averages out around 110-120 per quarter which I feel is too expensive considering we only really have the landline for broadband useage. The cost of calls only racks up about £13 (Most are evenings and weekends) the rest is VAT BT Broadband and other service charges. I am currently on BT option one and I use the cheapest broadband package. I have toyed with the idea of leaving BT for a while now but I don't really know if there are any better and cheaper packages that would suit my needs.

Is there a better package out there for me or it this a good as it gets?

Sorry I should have broken it down a little more.

    VAT - 17
    BT Broadband £50
BT Together option one the hour plan which comprises line rental - £30

Maybe this is the best deal available to me, I not sure thats why I'm asking.
  • Hi Jizba

It would seem that BT is rather expensive however I don't know of many cheaper packages out there at present. You claim to use the landline primarily for broadband, well £120 per quarter is way too much to spend on BT.

I'm sorry I cant be any more helpful but someone on this board will help you out better than I can.

£50+VAT is way too much for broadband. I use Virgin at £15 per month (including VAT :-).

My deal is actually packaged as £15 sim card which includes 150 min + 150 free texts + free broadband.

I agree with the both of you that my package is too expensive but what are my options in relation to getting a better/cheaper service including BB and using my landline for calls.

You can choose a few providers for a package including phone, BB and TV e.g. BT, Sky, NTL, Virgin.

You can choose from any number of providers for BB and phone independently.

If you speak to several people you will get several opinions on who is best. I have had problems with BT, Talk Talk and AOL but others swear by them, so it really is down to you. However I would suggest you stick to market leaders and avoid the small operators. A few pence saving/month does not seem so attractive when BB service is unavailable.

You could check out the prices on one of the price comparison sites e.g. http://www.uswitch.com/HomePage/Index.aspx

Am an existing Virgin Broadband user, today I signed up to Virgin Broadband 'M' so will be paying £10/mth for the next year instead of £18 for 2MB, but have to swallow the £25 'installation' fee. Still a saving over the next year.
  • check out thinkbroadband (sorry cant do links) you can do comparisons etc read views opinions etc. it is independant. lots info on there
