I've finally found myself a permanent job after moving in and out of jobs after University. My course was an 'arts' course and so, typically didn't help with the direction I'm heading now. My job is based in financial services and that can only help me with my knowledge and motivations for the future. My employer is also covering the costs of the CII CF1 module of the Certificate in Financial Planning and future modules I wish to take towards the certificate if I so choose.

Anyway, I have joined the £12k in 2013 thread but that is probably a bit of a push but I thought I'd try and set myself a seemingly unassailable target just to push myself further. I would be very proud to save £10,000 over 2013 which would take my savings just short of £26,000 (at time of writing).

I'm writing this now, mainly so I can look back on this in a year and see if I have made the efforts I wish to at the moment. Also in hope of using it to push myself (as with the hard savings target).

I have also set myself a target of losing 50lbs of weight in 2013. I put myself on a harsh weight loss diet a couple of years ago after a really tough time in my life. I've since put a little of the weight back on again and so have set a target that would take me further than the lowest weight I got myself down to before - Again, to push myself harder.

I'll try update here now and then and we'll see how it all goes!

Thanks for reading.

Good job too. Would've looked a bit of a fool if it was.

Still don't think I'll hit my targets but I've purposely made them difficult. Better to struggle to reach a hard target than breeze through an easy one.

Thought I'd get things underway with a small deposit into the instant access account. 10% of this months target done, 0.83% of the overall total. Looong way to go.

Thanks to both of you - I set my target at £12k and the target percentages are in regard to that but I'll be happy with £10k really as it's a lot more realistic. Just wanted to make it harder to hit.

Really putting effort into the weight loss too, I'm currently at 6'4½" and 17st 8lbs - aiming for 14st ideally

Made a few more deposits into the savings this month, now up to £350 for the year with only eight days gone so far. I also get paid in just over a week and that should include a slight tax refund in it so hopefully I'll be able to meet this months £1,000 target (whether I can make it next month is another story).

With regard to weight loss, last week I exercised five days out of seven so continuing that this week where I'll probably step it up to six days.
