Problems downloading email via Orange

Last couple of weeks i have not been able to download emails from my orange email address....nothing has changed settings wise. I can access them through webmail which is slow and not very useful. Plus they seem in the last week or so to want to charge for access to emails via a mobile phone unless you have a specific Orange plan (i have and they still want to charge). Some people on oher forums seem to be having the same problem downloading messages so any experiences here or ideas how to get around this?

Contract with orange broadband etc doesnt finish until late feb and then cant wait to get rid of..
