  • Good afternoon everyone, hope everyone is managing to stay warm! Kids have been out playing in the snow and have come in starving - making bacon (last of Christmas freezer stock), oven roasted bubble and squeak and baked beans. Got a winning email - have won a free litre carton of Cravendale (every little helps when you are being frugal!).
Have run out of cat food and am now wondering if they will eat dog food! - Otherwise its a mile walk to the village shop!
Found half a pack of sausage and apricot stuffing at back of freezer so thinking of something yummy(!) I can make for tonight.
    Happy frugalling. x

My fussy cat perfers dog food to her food, I'm not sure if she eats it just to wind the dog up though.
  • Afternoon All, a bit warmer here today after a light snowfall last night and this morning. Have been out for a walk and it is lovely as long as you are wrapped up.

Meant to be doing preparation work for school over the weekend but really need a day just to get some personal things done. Managed to get an apt with my regular hairdresser for later today for 25% off as she had a cancellation and advertised it on facebook.

Dinner for the next 2 days is made but I still have to make our Victoria Sponge and some HM ice cream. Tomorrow will be designated school work day so today I am trying to get washing and Ironing done too.
  • Afternoon all! Snow here meeehhh..about 1mm everyone panic buying still though! I have bread flour..that will do right? Do people not know how to cook things anymore? At best food will be limited for about 2 days here, id understand if it was in canada where people literally get snowed in for months.

Going to aldi tommorrow..trying to get mr hubby to think about not being loyal to asda anymore just because its easy..theres a mini asda next to alidi. Shall be batch cooking flap jacks and bannna/oat breakky muffins too i also have 1/4 jar cranberry sauce that should work in them?

Loads of stuff to ebay ..not sure if it will all sell but fingers crossed! have a good week all x

I got out my son's playmobil castle out yesterday and glued it together! He loves it but it always gets broken up in his games then stays in a box til I can find the instruction sheet and put it together again. Hope this will help avoid the "I wanna"s.
I need to sort out my sewing machine (daughter borrowed it and managed to break needle etc) and then mend my son's school trousers. I sacrificed one pair with a hole in the knee a while ago and it has saved at least four other pairs so far. They should be made of Kevlar.
I am planning home made curry tonight to cheer myself up.

    I got side tracked...
Anyone else who is working on the problem of spending on gifts, this thread is rather wonderful:

Scruffs year of home made gifts.
She began by listing all the gifts for the year ahead. I may do this so that I can get ahead.

Thanks, I have subscribed to this thread too. I am making all my Christmas pressies for 2013 handmade but not sure about Birthdays. I did buy a job lot of things from Boots in their after Christmas sale and I am planning to open up the packs and mix and match the products to make birthday hampers for my female relatives/friends. Always get stuck with my Dad and BIL though.

    The power of facebook!
Went out to the outhouse this morning and a lot of stuff in my freezer was not as frozen as it should be :( Its 12 years old so on the way out. I put a wanted ad on a couple of selling pages on fb and got offered 2 freezers, then someone I knew put freezer £10 on their status! They had just bought a new fridge freezer today! So I popped round and picked it up. Now just waiting for a friend to help me lift the old one and new one! Can't really go wrong for a tenner :j

I have made breakfast muffins this morning and using up various bags of dried fruit. I made a double batch so now got 24 muffins. This is my mid morning snack at work to stop me buying snacks at work.

Great use of the dried fruit well done I bet they are great :snow_grin

I have also been baking, made Tiffin with a load of christmas biscuits that the kids said they didn't like and some mini marshmallows and baking chocolate and a few tablespoons of golden syrup I found lurking at the back of the cupboard. I had planned for it to go into packed lunches but DOH sas he doesn't like it, good job really as the kids have eaten it all already - I only made it yesterday.

Made flapjack as DOH does like this, so all ready for tomorrow and back to work.

Have a good (and frugal) night everyone. :rotfl:
  • lol think we have all been baking? i Also made flap jack for lunch boxes used up a 1/4 jar of cranberry sauce too and its lovely and filling. Nat very well done on the fridge for £10 bargain! Went shopping at aldi cant say it was that much cheaper (and in some cases more) than asdas own smart price brands, but the good thing was we spent less because there wasnt too much there , lol so all worked out well in the end £47.50 (have set a budget of £80 per week for 5 of us) doing really well there, one more week to go and its dh payday :D really dont like 5 week months. Plus side no council tax to pay for the next 2 months. Have decluutered boys wardrobe and drawers, one black sack for charity shop, and been given 2 black sacks to sort out, finding more things to ebay.

Does anyone know about amazon i know they set a fee for the postage , but i have quite a heavy book to sell and last time i missed out because the postage they set wasnt high enough! And the other books where cheaper than what i wanted to sell it for. Thanks x
