It's sweet that he wants you to have something special, but he needs to be made to realise that the present you really want is what you should be given regardless of what 'department' it falls under!
  • Although you may not be well enough for a Spa day or weekend, could you manage individual sessions? If there is a local beauty parlour, they will probably be able to book you in for a massage, reflexology, float session, or whatever type of treatment you enjoy. It could be a course of six sessions if you wanted. Also, some holistic therapists will come to your home.
  • I agree with him up to a point about 'house' stuff not really being a gift, but he's WRONG about the hair straighteners - they make a great gift (you can tell him I said so), so he needs to get the hair straighteners.

Every time he asks what you want, say hair straighteners.

Every morning sigh dramatically several times and say 'oh for a decent pair of hair straighteners'.

Every time there's a 'do' or you have to go outside the house, wail and cry 'but I can't go, I can't straighten my hair properly'.

Every time an ad for hair straighteners comes on the telly, squeak excitedly along the lines of 'ooh ooh ooh look' while you practice your shiniest-eyed look of longing.

  • Don't mean to sound cynical but is he just trying to get out of buying you a present? If my OH gave me a load of excuses like the one in your OP about why he won't get me something I'd really like, would consider a treat and wouldn't normally buy for myself then he'd feel the sharp end of my stillettos! :D Especially if the conversation started with "So what would you like for Christmas darling?"

My OH & I both have Amazon wish lists (and you can add anything to them from other websites now using a 'widget') then we set a budget and then we have a conversation about what item/items on that list we'd really like or what's not on the list but still within budget. Saves any arguments.

eeeeeee - LOL :rotfl:A few years ago pre my birthday I'd been trimming the hedge in the front garden with a pair of shears and mentioned in passing to OH that some electric hedge trimmers would come in handy. Guess what I got for my birthday? I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. That's when we came up with the Wish List idea :D

how about books? perfume? fancy toiletries that arent considered in the usual weekly budget? booke on crafts or a magazine subscription for crafts? Its difficult hes said no to most typical "gift" genres which Id say are mostly under my tree and greatly received. Maybe you could have a chat and explain that although he may not consider them gifts its stuff you would like and appreciate and that these gifts would mean more to you because of you wanting them regardless of what area of the house they are used for or the fact that its something you could do any time of the year?
Life is what you make it.
  • Men eh! I only told my OH this time last week what I wanted as there was nothing that I needed or wanted as I tend to buy items when I want/need them. I picked a Cricut cake mini it was delivered yesterday not looked at it yet though.

What about a weekend away? Day out to the cinema/meal something along them lines?
