MBNA credit cards - reviews?

Options
What are your thoughts on MBNA credit cards?

https://www.mbna.co.uk/choose-credit-card/

Seems to be owned by Bank of America.

But what about their offering? (Have you seen any good reviews floating about?)

But what about the section here on MSE about 0%, aren't those better?

Also, what do you mean BT? Thanks :)

MBNA are one of the best cards for repeat offers for existing cardholders. Just make sure you are never late with payments and always pay off over minimum.

Offers include repeat balance transfer offers and 0% on purchases.

Agree with the reviews above. I've been a customer of theirs for many years and so far have not had any problems. They do seem to offer repeat balance transfers/money transfers to existing customers.

Ah, I never saw that on their site.

You mean they extend the 0% on balance transfer stuff beyond the original sign up timeframe?

No. They give you a special promotion on 'new' spend.

Why would they suddenly decide to trim your interest rate on existing debt from circa 18.9% APR to 0%?
  • They're very good in general, especially for intro and repeat offers, including money transfers to current accounts.

Their one downside, they're notorious for rate jacking once you've had the card for a year or so. This only applies to their standard rate though, which you shouldn't be carrying a balance on anyway, ideally!

They don't extend the offer but they give you new offers - 0% on BT or money transfers etc for a certain period, there are fees attached to these (around 4% currently) but with the money transfer you can transfer the money to your current account and then pay it back to the card, this pays off the original balance transfer that may be about to end and you are left with the money transfer at 0% for whatever period they've given you.

I have had the same rate since i got the card many years ago.

As said above they are the best in the business for BT/money transfer deals for exsiting customers.
  • They've never increased my standard rate either. I have a 19K limit with them - more than any other CC. (Actually I had 24.5K over two MBNA cards, but I closed one.)

Haven't had any offers for a couple of years now. Prior to that I often used to get offers. I am running a LOB deal on it. Perhaps the change in payment hierarchy put them off making further offers whilst I'm on a deal.
