Mercedes Auto clutch or gearbox problem

I'd ask/have a look on www.mbclub.co.uk/forums might be something obvious/common and an easy fix! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Thanks for taking the time to post that - just mentioned it to him and he said that he posted on there earlier when I posted on here, so hopefully someone there will have some answers.0

Hopefully it will just be a sensor glitch and now they have cleared the error code you'll get no more trouble
If it comes back then you need to start looking for a indie merc specialist, if it's a common fault then they will have come across it before and will have a solution0 -
No error lights. No problem. I would trade it in or sell it on before it comes back.0

Problem resolved - battery and transmission fluid problems0

Had this before in my automatic a class.
You need... A new battery.
The fault is caused by one of the sensors glitching due to low current. The gearbox module poops itself and thinks there's a big problem and goes into limp home mode.
I got this once, then it got more common and started occurring with an F on the dash and then started happening every journey after about five months.
New batty installed, it never reappeared.0 -
Well that's got to be worth a shot I'd have thought! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Just to disclaimer - I don't know what fault code I was getting, but had similar diagnosis from various people I called about it. Someone on another motoring forum told me to try the battery first and whaddya know. Four years later, still no reappearance. For £60, it's worth a shot IMO.
But, for what it's worth, I had an issue recently whereby it seemed the gearbox was having trouble deciding what gear it should be in. It seemed to hunt for the right gear. I took it to a place in Ware, Hertfordshire (google for it) after several people telling me it was clutch, major failures etc. They sorted me out with a transmission oil change and it's also been good ever since.
I think these cars get a bad rep fairly unduly. The last person who was whining is my mate's wife who had a diesel auto. She's facing major repair bills after a faulty turbo, but it's also come to light that it's a 57 plate car with 13,000 miles on the clock... if you don't drive diesels the mileage they should be driven, you'll get big problems!0 -

Black might not be good. A lot of transmission fluid is red and still has that colour when dirty (the one's i've changed have been at least).
Mayhap a fluid change will help. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
