Basic bank account with petrol pump debit card

A petrol pump does not need an offline card, its just some banks block Pay@pump transactions as they don't know how much is going to be withdrawn, as they only authorise £1. My 17 yr son has a Santander under 18s account and when he fills up his car he uses the pump just fine and I doubt thats an offline card.0

Sorry but you are wrong with the bold part.
Pay@Pump are fully online. Petrol pumps have a zero floor limit. P@P auth for a small amount less than £2 and then debit for the full amount afterwards. This is why they won't allow certain cards. As they do not check the avaiable balance, only the fact the card is active.
Not sure any basic account will give you standard visa debit card. Even prepay debit/credit cards won't work.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Co-op cashminder does work at ASDA and Tesco so does Barclays Cash Card.0

Not always. It's typically £1 in supermarkets, but other stations with P@P, it can be significantly higher. The same goes for other countries such as the USA, which can authorise a card for upto $75.dalesrider wrote: »Pay@Pump are fully online. Petrol pumps have a zero floor limit. Not in my experience they don't. My co-op Cashminder card isn't even accepted at my local train station!

Agree especially as the coop cashminder card is a favourite for bankrupts & I'm positively 100% sure that the bank would want authorisation before they allow these customers loose with a debit card.0 -

So, as you say, they process the main transaction offline as I say.
You'll note in many circumstances you receive a product or service prior to handing over a card to get the available balance checked (eg restaurants, hotels). It is the fact the main transaction is done offline (irrespective of the initial ~£1 authorisation) that causes the problem0 -

But you said with "no network connection present"
A pay@pump will not work without a network connection. No matter what type of card you have. Even a credit card would be declined as it can not validate the card as live.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
