Data Roaming charges while abroad

i had this problem with 02 after a weeks holiday in egypt if i remember correctly i came home to a bill for around £700, 02 refused to forward data information to me first they said it wasnt available then they quoted they could not tell me because of data protection!! i did eventually get the times,dates and data usage by being insistent with them.
the times,dates did not add up, it showed data was being used when the phone was turned off and locked in room safe and even showed data use when the phone was turned off on the flight home. when i explained this to 02 they replied the data use times might not be correct.

my phone was off on some of the times that they have told me I was using data. so that doesn't add up.

You cannot agree to have the cap removed permanently. However, you agree to have it removed every time you buy some data roaming bundle - and they have to warn you about this.

i did pay so my phone would not be cut off, i did persue it for quite a while, in hindsight i wish i had followed it through and carried on my dispute with them, their attitude was because the foreign network said i used data then i must have used it, they would not listen to my denials, i know the phone was in a locked safe turned off although i could not prove it, i could however prove i was on a flight home, this is when 02 replied the data times shown by foreign network might not be correct.

i am just astonished that it can be this much for just two days. It really didn't dawn on me to ring them as it was only for two days, if it were a week then I probably would have done. I rang the bank to say I was away so that I could use my card while away.

I am going to pursue it more although they say they dont refund roaming charges anymore. I can't afford to pay it as it is due 2nd Jan. So either presents for the kids or pay the phone bill - seems really unfair.

With a data counting app installed you would be in a much stronger position to argue these charges.
Does iPhone not have it built in?

I am amazed that you phone could download 605mb in 48 hours. You say you only checked a few things for only half an hour a day. So that meant in 48 hours you were checking for only 1 hour roughly.
Did you check your usage on the phone.
It is always a good thing to check that on a regular basis.
Did you listen to music or YouTube. What is your normal surfing habit when at home. What for example did you use yesterday. The usage meter in the phone can be put at zero so you can check daily.
With all these story's of big bills after going out of the country it is a shame you have this proble as well.
I have been checking my usage monthly for 18 months so I know exactly what sort of contract I need.

i didn't reset the counter so have no idea. It was less usage than I would do normally as I wasn't at home, so was avoiding using the phone. No I wasn't listening to music or looking at youtube (which I have never done)! Its just a bit of a shock. Lets see what Orange have to say tonight!

Well, 600Mb for 1 hour on 3g is possible. It's just 1.33Mbps.

Some upgrading on 3g that repeatedly fails can easily do this. Upgrading to iOS 6 can do this even without failures.
