It could be argued that due to people's actions on here it's now more likely to end up as a bait dog! In reality she could have had a lovely home by now.

Ultimately surely the priority was getting the dog a good home NOT telling the owner what a bad person she was?

Well a free to a good home ad on gumtree was not the way to go about getting the dog a good home. Regardless of what has happened now.

Spreading around someone's contact information and telling others to 'give her hell' is not expressing their feelings - it's pathetic bullying. The actions of a coward.

Okay spreading it about I do not agree with, I didn't message her myself but had she been in the area I would have messaged her to suggest she at least asks for some sort of donation/considers a rescue etc. I would have explained about similar instances where the dog met unfortunate circumstances.

Absolute nonsense. Those kind people who have tried to help the dog should be commended, not criticised.

It's you who should be ashamed.

That's missing the point somewhat really; I am not saying that what she did was right, I'd never give away any of my pets "free to good home" BUT can I refer you to this thread:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4347907

This was the same situation but with two cats. Was this owner criticised, having lets face it complete strangers send her horrible messages? No, no criticism, no hiding behind anonymity and sending horrible messages. The cats were taken off her and they are now on the way to rescues and hopefully better homes.

Does anyone know what's happened to this dog?

    No...

THATS the difference, people should not have been sending nasty horrible messages, lets face it it she was prepared to give up a dog because it didn't get on with a new puppy she was hardly going to see the error of her ways was she? Trying to educate the larger population about the responsibilities of owning a pet, that helps, criticising individuals doesn't, by the time they have advertised the pet "free to good home" it's already too late, any amount of nasty comments, even good advice wasn't going to make her change her mind was it?

Pointing out to her how wrong she was didn't help that dog, it just made things worse for it. For all you know it could be dumped on the streets or dead.

This dog has not been helped by any of your actions in the long term.....and I mean everyone, not just the OP I've quoted from.

A valid point well put Notsosharp.

I'd like to think a person that has owned a pet for 9 years would not stoop so low, but must admit the !!!!less depths to which this "human" race can go to makes me weep.

I'm the same; I'm a member of a few buying/selling groups on facebook including a pets one.

On one of these groups someone advertised a dog cage for £20 with free dog:eek: (probably to get round the "no pets" rule this one had). My mum saw this, saw there were already loads of people asking after it (after all there is profit to be made in buying a sprollie for £20 and selling it on) so she messaged the person involved. This person wanted rid because her little boy had gotten bored with it and she wanted it gone within the next half hour!

Well mum being a bit of a softie went and picked up this dog (Max he's called) and was originally going to give him to a springer rescue she had already made contact with and who had agreed to take him....thing is he's still with my mum two weeks later and shows no sign of being given up. My mum is lucky, she had the money, time and space for another dog....I see adverts every day and wish I could take these animals on.

There's someone giving away a bearded dragon because their daughter no longer wants it. I've always wanted one but can't take it on because I have no cage or money. Fact of the matter is this will probably be either taken on by someone who doesn't really know what they're doing or sold on for a profit.

So if anyone knows anyone who wants a bearded dragon in the North Yorkshire area let me know :)

One poster has attempted to offer the dog a good and loving home.

In what world is 'give her hell' helpful?
