Non payment

I sold some shoes for my (disabled) grandson. The shoes are D & G and sold for £30. As he is a wheelchair user they were worn twice.

Buyer didnt communicate with me at all. Sent payment details and then says she`s away and I can relist! Now I`ve read her feedback and I`m the 5th person she hasn t paid! I can open a case on Tuesday. I informed Ebay of her shananingans and wonder how she got through as I did the usual blocking of iffy people. I usually get at least one non payer a month but this is upsetting.

I have submitted feedback on the lines of......, Sadly I am the 5th person that this buyer hasnt paid which I hope paints a picture. I have a sneaky suspicion that I cant leave feedback AND open a non paying case. Is that right? Of course she can leave nasty feedback for me now as a tit for tat or can I stop that?

File an npb then if she doesnt pay after exactly 4 days close it to get your fees back. She will get a strike on her account and will not be able to leave feedback.
2 strikes will mean as long as your buyer requirements are set tight they will be limited as to who they can buy from.

As for leaving a false positive in feedback she will be able to get that removed and you may get a policy strike on your account.

If those 4 previous sellers had gone about things the correct way then with tight buyer requirements she would not have been able to buy in the first place.

I dont think leaving fb will stop you being able to open a case.

I agree with alykatz, the fact that those other sellers have left non positives have meant they have not left strikes that stick, so blame them for allowing this bidder to waste your time.

If you have also left a false positive then buyer can get your strike removed as well if they push it with ebay, and the buyer continues to waste all our time.

Oh yes if they push it with ebay they can, a buyer who needs a strike cannot be deemed a 'positive' buyer. Therefore leaving a positive implies all went well after all so no strike necessary.

Ive never had feedback removed and buyers strikes remained.

But i don't ger personal - i just put "no payment received".

Looks like im about to be scammed - a buyer had said he is disapointed his 2nd class item as not arrived within 7 days. Feedback left for other shows lots of negs for non receipt.

My feedback will be something like "sorry all your Ebay post seems to be going missing - refunded in full"

Follow up will be - "see buyers feedback left for others for full story" :-)
  • I always launch NPB cases and in addition, I always used to leave false positives until the good people on MSE advised that it could be counter-productive.

It would be interesting to read here if anyone has left a false negative for a NPB and it has backfired on them - but I do like Techspec's approach! :D

The problem is half the time a seller wouldn't know as the positive willr emain, as why would a buyer want a positive removed?

I am aware of at least one buyer who complained to ebay that they had a strike even though seller left a positive and the strike was removed instantly, although the feedback was left as it was 'positive' and thats all that actually matters as it rarely gets read by anyone if they only buy. The other people who had mentioned this to me were only anecdotal as I don't tend to get contacted by many time wasting buyers for advice.

Unfortunately I cant see if the other people opened a case as well as leaving FB but in a way I`m glad they did as I realised I`m not the only one. I`ve also reported her to Ebay so hopefully that will help too. I think her plan is to ask all her sellers to resell to get her off the hook.

If they have left a false positive then any strikes may well have been removed- it is sellers that don't understand what they are doing that cause these time wasters to carry on.

Do an NPB, get them a strike and DON'T leave feedback. Why on earth reward a time wasting buyer with a lovely shiny green positive star to bump up their feedback ?

Agree completely and tbh who has the time to vet every possible bidder before auction ends? And with bin you dont know who will buy until its too late to do anything anyhow.
So all those false positives serve no real purpose except an extra green approval dot.
