Our local co op is quite handy at this too.

The reason the staff don't like it is that they are ones who get moaned at by customers !
In most supermarkets the prices you get charged at the till are set remotely, but the local staff have to manually change the price on the shelf. It is quite common for the two not to tally up - because "head office" forget to send out the shelf labels and go ahead and change the prices at the till.

I wouldn't say the Co-op are worse than anyone else.

We are in the 21st century now. Shelf edge label batches will be created instore - not sent from Head Office.

I also find this problem in my 2 local Co Op stores. Staff are fine when the problem is pointed out but I never get an apology.

Sainsburys SELs and barkers are printed in store and are either made by head office, a colleague requesting price ticket via a handset or when a colleague redresses a section.

Yes, we know that we are in the 21st century. By "sent from HO" we mean digitally, not a roll of labels send in the post!!!!!!

Head office change the prices and broadcast the new prices to the store's printers where the labels are printed automatically.

So the labels are created at HO, but printed out at the local stores printer.
  • Most supermarkets have an admin department that deals with all the SELs and POS in-store. Most SELs are printed in-store. Head office set all the prices and offers.
  • Personally, I find Morrisons to be terrible at updating prices but never had a problem rectifying it.
Happened a few times at Co Op but they're always fine. I've had the price come up as lower than stated too which is a nice surprise.

Actually some shops they are made elsewhere and sent to the store. I worked for Starbucks and all of our labels were sent by Head Office...

That's understandable but the big supermarket chains print them in house these days.

I used to work for the co-op.The only reason i can think of for staff not liking it is because customers look at you like you're the one personally robbing them.Alot of people don't realise that the checkout staff only scan the item, they have nothing to do with any pricing, that is down to a different department. It's the poor checkout staff that are in the firing line.I now will never work in a supermarket again and i have the utmost respect for checkout staff. The looks you get and how rude people are have put me off for life.
It happens everywhere, ive been overcharged at Asda,Morrisons and Tesco.
