Hi,
Sorry I've put the thread here but I'm unsure where it goes.
Basically I bought some Birdseye Crispy Chicken, cooked them and took my first mouthful and to have my mouth cut open by a reasonable sized plastic piece. It's extremely sharp and could do some damage.
What are the steps and what do I do?
Thanks

depends
either complain to Birds Eye
or
complain to Trading Standards.
Tip - don't complain about what MIGHT have happened. Tell them you cut your mouth.
You could send them the plastic (for their investigations) or write to them but retain it.
Entirely up to you.
Me - I would write to them.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Thank you Honey Bear0 -
I'd send them an email and attach photos of the plastic piece.
Send them a detailed email; including the batch number, expiry date of the product and product name.
They may then ask you to send the plastic piece via snail mail. I'd ask for a freepost address and I'd send it Recorded Delivery (with a view of them compensating for added postage costs).
Expect them to send you some sort of apology letter, compensation (cheque or Birds Eye vouchers). I'd also expect them to carry out a thorough investigation.
Sounds like a serious matter. Hope you're ok after biting/chewing on the object.

Don't contact trading standards they can't help with the issue. Environmental Health officers handle complaints about food quality, hygiene and safety issues. Trading standards handle complaints about food labelling, ingredients, and weights and measures.
Contact details for the food safety team (environmental health) at your local council should be published on their website.
Alternately you can contact the manufacturers and attempt to resolve the problem with them directly.
If possible take photos of the item, keep all packaging and make a note of when and where it was purchased.0 -

The packing lines at Birds Eye will have metal detectors in place but, of course, there's no easy way to spot plastic foreign objects.
I once worked in a facility that packed frozen prawns (just a single line) and in eighteen months we only had two returns for foreign objects. In both cases the objects did not originate with us but with our bulk supplier and it would have taken a huge amount of luck to spot those things between being tipped onto the conveyor from the bulk pack and being bagged into retail packs. (Total run distance there was thirty feet of which barely half "might" be seen by a very busy production worker, in around a twenty second window.)
There isn't a QC procedure in the world that can catch everything, but believe me - they try.
As has been said, a letter of apology and perhaps a voucher are the most likely response.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
