Plum Pie - I bet you were the one I was bidding against for that mincer! Instead I managed to win an auction for mincer, bowl, k-beater, balloon whisk and a creamer for the bargain price of £41-ish inc. p&p! So now I can make my own butter and my own cream!

Mine came with the ancient recipe book as well! I had a good chuckle when I flicked through it at all those "healthy" recipes...

Hee hee Maow :o Sounds like you got a great deal though!

When the chef arrived, I danced round the house! When I saw the 'Buy it now' mincer (I'd previously been outbid on some attachments), I nearly punched the air (then I remembered I was in the office and I don't need my reputation as 'the quirky one' tipping over it 'strange one in the corner'). I've actually been waiting for a new thread on kenwoods to start so I can brag about mine.

It's good to [STRIKE]feel safe with fellow weirdos[/STRIKE] be among friends!

I think I did get a good deal... Especially considering I roped my mum into paying for it!!! Only thing is, I won't get a birthday present from her this year. But at least I can make my own b-day cake with my own butter and even HM cream!!! Ha! Now she can stop telling me all those tales about how good she was for actually scrubbing the floors... (maow gloats and rubs her hands together in glee, then sticks wer tongue out at imaginary image of mother)

I actually hugged mine when DH brought it home - the K-chef I got was sold by someone just 'round the corner so he went to collect it. And yes, he said I was weird. Until he tasted the mash, the brownies, the butter, the brownies made with the butter...

Hi everyone. Can you tell me what maximum price I should be looking at for a KC? I really want to get one off E-Bay (just the mixer with the 3 basic tools) but I don't know what a reasonable price would be. Thanks for any help.

Nick, the new ones are about £200 and the older models last longer (according to experts on this board!). I felt as I was going to use it a lot, I could justify paying more. I worked out a budget from that and then checked ebay very regularly until one come up that I could afford.

I bought mine from the Marshall Ward website. It was the basic Kenwood Chef, with the 3 attachments and the liquidiser and cost £130. I checked out all the reviews and this one seemed the best option for me. The bigger more expensive ones are better for those who want to make huge quantities of things, but I'm only cooking for a family of 4, and mine copes with everything we need with ease (eg it can mix ingredients for up to 4 2lb loaves at one time)

This was the best price for a KC which all the shopbots threw up (and better than anything on ebay at the time). It came 2 days after I ordered it, and payment not due until 14 days after you get it, so you can check it, and if not happy return it, without having to pay and then claim a refund.

You also have the benefit with a new one of a guarantee period. The old ones may last longer overall, but if you buy a secondhand 15 year old model, and it burns out after 6 months, you're stuck, whereas I would expect a brand new one to give many years of hard service.
