you know what they say, if you can afford to buy the car, you can afford to run it.

While i cant justify spending that much on a car (unless a lottery win) if it doesnt leave you short or anything and you want it, enjoy it!

There is a lot of thinly-disguised jealousy here. The OP states that he works hard and he should therefore expect to do what he wants with his own money. He also says that he 'came from nothing' meaning that he worked his way up to a good income by his own efforts, from what sounds like a lowly life position. Well, good luck to him, but the fact is that the way he came up, and the way he learned to live, is making him self-conscious about the purchase of a car that he probably dreamed of for a long time.

By all means try to make the best deal you can if you want to get shot of the Range Rover, but take no heed of some of the snide comments here. The Range Rover is a BRITISH export success story. Jaguar/Range Rover are selling expensive cars all over the world. That means money coming into Britain at a time when we badly need it. I believe that you should be applauded for buying British, when, as has been pointed out, you could have bought any one of a choice of foreign motors.

And before it is pointed out to me that Jag/RR is foreign-owned, I know that: but they are BUILT here and that means that they are EXPORTED from here, thus bringing in capital and providing British jobs. In addition, the company is owned by a foreign concern that actually pays its taxes here.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Quite agree! I'll give you 3 grand for it....

Trust your feelings and get shot of the Range Rover - nothing says a$$hole like a 4x4 in this day and age!

no nothing says ahole more than someone who makes a statement like this

What about the winter we had a couple of years ago, where the 4x4 became the hero of our nation, if it weren't for many 4x4 owners being members of voluntary groups who help out in moments of bad weather, there would've been a heck of a lot of old people who would be dead from nurses and home helps not being able to get through to them and countless numbers of people who needed to get to hospital for dialysis etc, I didn't hear many of these people decrying 4x4's.
As for the OP buy what you want, you deserve it, I had a Jeep Patriot a few years ago and we got 42-45 mpg all the time, just as quoted, it didn't have a low box or anything like that but had the automatic sensing of loosing traction and being able to send power to the rear wheels, you also had the option of engaging 4 wheeled with a selector by the gearstick, came in handy quite a few times, I loved the car even though the critics didn't and detested getting rid of it but it was on a PCH so had to go back!
    Merry Chrimbo!
Thanks to all the competition posters.

Well its not a brand reliability success story, its been the most unreliable brand for 11 years in a row. http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/what-car-reliability-survey-2012/results-by-brand--31st-to-36th/263555/

Rather shocked you got an offer of 37k from WBAC when you paid £38 for it.

    You sure that wasn't £31k ?

What you really wanted was a nice tax exempt one. OK no electric windows and aircon = open a window. :)
In fact not a lot of electric anything. Its got an engine and lights. What more do you need.

And the fuel consumption maybe even worse than your getting now. But LPG it.

    Expensive mistake.

Well if you remember this thread from a few weeks ago you will remember my dilemma.

I kept the 4x4 for a couple of months, loved the car but missed my monthly savings and comfort factor knowing there was always spare cash around each month.

I traded it in against a brand new ford focus 1.0l ecoboost (big change I know), picked it up last week. It's no luxury vehicle but its comfortable, zero road tax this year then £30 per year and meant to do 56mpg. I was also happy with the trade in price.

Did I take a hit on my first purchase, of course I did but I enjoyed the car for the time that I had it and I'm happy with my new car to. Running a projected cost analysis over 3 years of ownership made it a no brainer.

Did I learn from this yes, next plan is to blitz the remaining finance on the focus and then tackle the mortgage head on before maybe buying another luxury motor ..............not!

So for me alls well that ends well, thanks for all the straight talking advice on this matter.
