If you can find a foreign broadcaster showing a (non-encrypted) sporting event then I think it is legal for you to receive that broadcaster's signal via a non Sky receiver.

I really doubt someone will come knocking on your door if you are doing it in your living room, if you are a publican or club owner, then you are at risk of a big fine, but that big fine is still probably cheaper than putting sky in your pub for a year.

Is it sky sports in particular you are wanting or any sports channels?
There are a number of other satellites broadcasting TV signals into europe, some of which are free-to-air. Don't forget "Sky" is only part of satellite broadcasting industry, not the be all and end all that most people think it is
    My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
    My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
    My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08

Sorry, I can't help you much more if it is just Sky sports you are after, as you will be in breach of some law by trying to obtain it by other means.
As I mentioned other broadcasters do beam sports channels into our homes. Some of the broadcasts have in the past been the same as sky, but with different commentary. The same events are also broadcast by different companies just with different camera views, however if its anything top notch the chances are they will also be employing their encryption system to the broadcast

  • Hmm don't think this is the right place for the discussion?

A lot of us try hard to save money while paying for the use of Sky Sports. If you DID find a way to do it immorally, then how would that make the majority of users on this site feel that pay? :)

We can give advice on cheaper ways to get sky sports through Virgin or Sky, but getting it for free without subscription...

Meh, if its legal through random satellite then go for it. Maybe luck of signal area.. but to me, you're trying to use a service and not pay for it... to me personally thats wrong and insulting the people who do pay for it?

Maybe i'm being moody as i haven't had a cup of tea yet! Apologies if so :p Just my advice.

Sky Sports broadcasts on Sky Italy, if you can get a box and Sky Italia card you could watch it that way.

There is nothing illegal about receiving channels this way, just often against a broadcasters T&Cs

There isn't any other way to receive Sky (other than cable), there is other ways of receiving many of the football matches Sky show and also watch matches that are played Sat afternoons which can't be shown to UK viewers.

You just need a big enough dish and a satellite box with the right encryption and a valid viewing card. Again this isn't illegal, it's only illegal if you go down the route of using hacked boxes and viewing the channels without paying for the subscription if they are subscription channels.

It was possible to watch the football on a Turkish channel free and with English Audio option, but the FA wanted them to shift the channel from one that could be received easily in the UK or encrypt.

Multi-choice ZA - with a 2.25 metre dish (http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/intel10_c.html), you'll pick it up, just need to get a subscription viewing card.

Art Sport - Hotbird 8, covers the UK nicely: http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/hb8.html

It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Motorised multi-sat is the way to go.

Makes satellite TV fun again, just like before Sky took off.

Problem is Sky have done such a great job of brainwashing people into think the only satellite is Sky.
