  • Congratulations op, really inspirational. I am in a very similar position at the moment for very different reasons.

Don't listen to the moaners though, it is time for you to celebrate

Before people congratulate OP, notice how OP deliberately talked about the £13k pay increase but conveniently avoided giving information on what job it is for. Must be a sales job or another Collection Assistant/Debt Collector job based on commission. No other roles hire that quickly and offer such a pay increase.

Some people need to get a grip, seriously.

I'm sure we've all considered ourselves unlucky at one point or other - INCLUDING those people having a shot at the OP.

Yet because there's people starving in Africa & those who don't even live to their teens, everyone else who claims to be unlucky is suddenly the most luckiest person in the world & they don't know the meaning of being unlucky.

Come off it. You all know what the OP is meaning. Quit overreacting. xsupercarlx said it best.

Congratulations to OP. You bettered yourself which is all anyone needs to do. End of.
  • Well done Better-Off-1983.
I am afraid there is nothing you can do for the 'sad b*stards' who criticize, they exist everywhere.
Ignore them & always look on the bright side of life.:j

    Merry Xmas by the way.

    mega congrats.

Difference is, OP's job was bullying people into paying up. That's what a Collections Assistant does.

For skilled jobs you're looking at CV screening on hundreds of CVs, phone interviews, in person interviews etc... assuming it's one off interview per person. Based on how quickly OP found a job and with such a pay increase, we're looking at sales based role, relying on commission. These types of jobs are not lucrative and most people don't bother with them because of the high risks associated with earning from commission. That's why OP was offered a job so quickly.
Not necessarily - nothing to do with sales but as long as a reasonable trial period in place if the persons good, the role is free or a good reputation then pretty common in hi-tech particularly in the Cmbridge start-up clusters where companies often privately owned and a CEO/director has the discretion to hire who they want for how much.
