Incapacity-question/help

Hi all
My wife and have lived of her wages for a good few years now-- because I am unable to work-- she earns app, 18000k, a year --I receive inc, ben, but don,t receive any money but get my ins, stamp paid for also I am coming up to 60, the reason I don,t receive any money they say is because I missed a years stamps ----my question is if I now pay for these stamps will I be eligble for any weekly payments ?

Any advice please
Thanks

  • No, voluntary Contributions don't count towards Incapacity Benefit.

You have to have paid Class One contributions from working.

Im on incapacity and I,ve never paid any stamp so they told me I had to be on incapacity benefit for 1 year but not receive any money, when the year had passed I then started to receive payments. They are really helpful and answered all my questions.

No it is nothing to do with your wife working as IB is not a means tested benefit. I work and earn a few £K less than your wife and my husband claims IB and DLA since he left hospital in Jan.

It is because you have not paid enough contributions in the last couple of years.

I second what calleyw has told you.

I recieve IC benefit and my husband earns more than your wife. But I payed in and worked FT for many years before claiming. Even if my DH was on £100K I would still recieve IC benefit.

    Hi all
I have found a letter saying I have not paid enough ni,cont. for years april 2000 until april 2003 and it is now2007 and still not receiving any money,

    thanks
  • As far as I am aware, if you have not paid enough contributions for Incapacity Benefit, you receive Income Support instead. Voluntary or Credited contributions do not count towards IB, they have to have been made while you are working.

Income Support IS a means-tested benefit, so what your partner earns will be counted. If it's above the threshold you will not ever receive any money. But it does entitle you to free prescriptions etc (which IB doesn't).

I think this is correct but I suggest you ring the DWP and ask, as someone else has said, they are very helpful.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
