I have a hp F2480 and have just got a new windows 8 computer
when I switched it on I expected to have to install the printer but I didn't have to it just advised me to install a new driver which I tried to do but it says it was unsuccessful and the printer wasn't connected
this was strange as the printer is working and I can print things off but today I wanted to scan a photo but my shortcut that used to be on my old computer has gone so I can't work out how to scan it , I put the disc in but it keeps saying the printer isn't connected and I keep checking and the usb and plug are both connected - any ideas ??

right give me a clue where do I find the control panel in windows 8 - I miss my old computer I knew where everything was

and a quick question where do I find the calculator in windows 8 ??0 -
For both items from the "Start" screen just start typing the letters and the automatic search will bring up your items...0

where's the start screen lol ??0

Two methods from the desktop, mouse to bottom left, and right click on the start pop up. Or mouse to bottom right, charm bar slids in click on settings then click on control panel.
Don't ya wish ya stuck wiv Windows 7, I know I do.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

It's the standard home screen which you can get to by pressing the start button - usually if you type whatever you're looking for when you are in this screen, Windows will automatically find it for you. It's a different way to do it but can actually make it simpler as there shouldn't be any need to go and find something. So for control panel you just start typing control and it will come up, similarly you can find the calculator by starting to type calc.
I don't know if all the HP all in ones are the same, if you type computer into the start screen and click the icon that comes up it might show the scanner folder there as it does with the HP all in one I use.

printer is now installed and photo scanned thank you so much
I've jumped from windows vista to windows 8 and still finding my way around but I can't understand why I have that screen with all the squares on and a desktop - I can't seem to share any of my photos that are in my picture library to facebook or email them or is that not possible, I'm still going to the desktop to do all that - I'm still a bit confused by what you mean by the home screen is that the desktop or the bit with all the squares on it and when you say press the start button do you mean the windows button on the keyboard ??0 -
The Windows key on the keyboard is I guess what the poster was referring to as there is no visible start button in windows 8.
The screen with all the tiles on it is the start screen writ large ( also called the metro screen). Most if not all tasks are performed on the desktop.
To quote that great philosopher Renee from Allo Allo, Window 8 is the dinner of a dog.
Just try shoving your mouse into the corners of the screens and you'll get the hang of it.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
found the calculator - I think I really need to just spend some time playing with it but this time of year I just don't have much spare time , but I'll get there , thanks for all your help x0
