316 flue liner?

Hi guys,

Very quick question for those in the know...

Got an esse 100 wood burner. I am going to fit a flue liner and am getting conflicting advice.

The burner is only 5kw and is only burning seasoned wood and the odd lump of coal and only for short times over winter. Some have said a 316/316 liner will be fine and I am in agreement, others have said no, use the 904.

Any reasons why I shouldn't use the 316? I know it has 10 year guarantee, not 20 like 904 but that is ok with me.

Note - chimney is clean and is swept often.

Thanks.

  • If you buy a good quality liner - ie not £20 a metre stuff off ebay - then you may get more than ten years out of the 316. Good 316 liner will often outlast cheap 904. In your position I'd probably go for the 316 - dry wood and regular sweeping makes a big difference to any chimney!
  • Great! Thanks for that. I'm thinking this stuff -

it says hetas registered so should do the job.
  • I couldn't vouch for the quality of the stuff you linked - but it's certainly dirt cheap! I know one of my installer mates reckoned that the stuff he uses weighs roughly twice as much per metre as one of the well known cheap brands. He doesn't use cheap stuff as the job is a lot more likely to come back and bite him a year or two down the line. Your choice at the end of the day of course!

The only stuff we ever bought on line when we were desperate one pre christmas rush was so bad that OH refused to use it.
