Richard III

Having now found the remains of Richard III under a Leicester County Council car park, does he not now owe them for overstaying 554 years, and can he appeal to POPLA?

What an ignominious end to a noble King and what amazes me is that presumably the land has been redeveloped over the years and yet he has lain undisturbed. I wonder how they will obtain a positive DNA? I'm not up to speed with the kings and queens of England but does he have any living relatives?

I note that certain councils are fighting over his carcass as they think it will boost tourism if he is planted in their town. Word is he will be replanted in Leicester Cathedral.

In this modern commercial age i think he should be exploited to the max. How about propping his bones up in the front window of M & S ,Leicester branch and fitting him up with the latest Mary Portas collection?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Well the current royal family are related to him........although there is an academic argument that one of Richards descendants was illegitimate when he succeeded the throne and in fact there a guy called Simon Abney-Hastings in Jerilderie, Australia who technically is the rightful heir to the throne (seriously, no BS!!)

Are they related? I'm no history buff but wasn't Henry VII from a different family, hence the Bosworth battle?
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Well - no. Shakespeare had Richard III saying '....my kingdom for a horse' not 'my kingdom for a car' :rotfl:

There should now be a full state funeral, in Westminster Abbey, attended of course by such dignitaries as the present royal family, prime minister, US president, and UN Secretary General. ;)

Strange how brutality and treachery were common currency in those long off days - but Richard III is singled out as one of history's worst villains

They are all related one way or another. The War of the Roses was a battle between two branches of the genealogical line with rival claims - Richard III seized the throne from his nephew Edward V and Henry Tudor maintained he had a better claim than Richard.

Nah that was just Tudor propaganda.

They were second cousins once removed - both descended from John of Gaunt and Katherine Swynford (the Beaufort line). Richard's maternal grandmother was Joan Beaufort, and Henry's mother was Margaret Beaufort, Joan's great-niece. Plus they were third cousins via Thomas Holand 2nd Earl of Kent and Alice Fitzalan. Fourth cousins once removed if you take it back to Edward III and Philippa of Hainaut.

The spot where he was found was, indeed, a council car park. But it was church land expropriated at the time of the Reformation. So perhaps the council don't really own the car park, and everyone who has ever paid to park there should demand their money back. Not POPLA but Pope-la

Surely he would be just annoyed of the eponymous cockney rhyming slang

I was under the impression that Richard III was posthumously attainted. So unless someone has since gone to the trouble of getting that reversed, all his assets will have been forfeited to the crown leaving nothing for Leicester County Council.
