So there are more S3's sold than iPhone 4's ? If thats the case then I agree, but I wouldn't have thought it would be the case.

Possibly not, but you'd expect a company to be forward thinking would you not?

The S3 is a flagship smartphone and supports NFC.

The iPhone 4/S does not support NFC and has been replaced by iPhone 5, which also does not support NFC.

Future sales are, predominantly, iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 (plus some other very similar spec Android devices which also support NFC).

So which would it be better to concentrate your app development towards? A phone that doesn't have the required hardware and will only ever have a shrinking marketshare since it has been replaced, or a flagship phone that is current and has all the hardware ready to go?

You can't even use the argument that there are currently more iPhone4/S in circulation than S3 or GNex and therefore it is a better test device, since the trial is limited to only 1000 people. I haven't checked but I'm fairly sure the S3 and GNex have sold more than 1000 devices in the UK.

Barclaycard seem to have the right idea. Shame they limit the service to Orange customers.
  • Not the same subject, but something I was told today in my local branch.

From the 1st of January next year we will not be able to pay any bills because they will no longer be using tellers. We will either have to use online banking or use the payment machines inside the bank.

That sounds like a local issue, unless my branches haven't told their staff they'll be jobless in a couple of weeks :rotfl:

And shame it doesn't work on any other NFC capable phones than the Galaxy S3. I asked Orange whether they had any plans to support my NFC-capable Windows Phone and they didn't even bother to reply.

Since when has any British bank employed "tellers"?

Asking to support another completely different operating system, and at that one with less than 1% market share is a bit of a push.

But expecting them to support the most popular operating system in the world I feel is quite reasonable.

Especially when all the NFC capable Android phones have broadly similar screen sizes, resolutions, and hardware capability. So fragmentation is not as issue.

They have been called "Tellers" for as long I can remember. When I took a Book Keeping and Commerce course back in the 1959 they were called "Tellers" then.

As do Windows Phones. And it's especially galling when the Nokia Lumia 920 (which has NFC) is pretty much 4GEE's flagship phone at the moment.

Could be local, but doubt it very much.

So they're suddenly going to get rid of people with no warning? And leave customers with less banking options with no notice. I doubt it very much.
