I'm not being funny but.......

Options
Why can't we have a Pregnancy / TTC board, instead of the new MSE mums and (barely used) MSE Dads boards, and then let this one revert to being Families & Relationships?

I just did a quick tally, and out of 20 active threads, 7 are pregnancy or TTC related. That's 35%. How many of the readers & posters are in those categories? Doesn't that give an indication of the volume of interest?

Personally I am at the wrong end of life to be interested in pregnancy and I'm certainly not TTC - I've done my bit for the population explosion - and i get a bit fed up of having to wade past those threads. I just think they should have a space if their own, as it's a big chunk of threads & posters who ARE interested in those things.

Rant over!

I'm a mum and I don't look at either of those boards - waste of time imo.

Well that lasted all of 45 minutes before it was moved.

Obviously any threads making comment about the new style boards get put where most posters don't go and will not see them.....which defeats the whole point of starting the thread to get the opinion of others.
  • Found you floss2 :)

The new boards are about MoneySaving for mums and dads rather than general parenting questions.

The marriages board has evolved over so many years to become much more than just MoneySaving, which is great but we wanted an area where parents could easily find the discussions on MoneySaving aspects of being a mum or dad.

At the moment they're very easily "findable" :)

It would be a really great help if parents could help by posting their MoneySaving questions on there.

    Andrea :)

That's fine, but have you actually told anyone this? And why separate threads for mums & dads - why not one for Parents, which might be used more?

I often look at both, and I'm a dad. OH (who I share this profile with) is the same.

So what you are saying is that mums and dads have different 'moneysaving' needs?

So mums should be asking about nappies and dads about....where to buy boats? And what about step mums/dads and foster mums/dads?

Alot of people are genuinely confused as to what you are trying to achieve here.

what you are trying to achieve here.
To give people the choice and options where to surf and post as opposed to the board deciding where a question should be posted - giving more lurking and posting power to the member may be? Why would people looking for money matters be imposed by those who are having family chit chats? I think family boards are more for regulars and it might turn off at least some clientele who are looking for specific information. It's just my perspective btw.

Yes and the board guides seem to be spending time shifting things around onto boards for very random reasons.

Do you think money saving for mums is different for dads then? Surely both want the best [items] for the children in question and so it's a bit of a strange division.

It isn't about what I think or would want; it is about having more options, making more space and extensions in a way that reflects the users. To make a board inviting, the topics need to be a little spread out and with the help of subboards focusing on moneysaving, it would only be fabulous, imo only ofcourse.

Not me, it was and still is a stupid idea.

I dont look at the Mums n Dads thread, so I am not likely to post in there. Not one member has said they like it, in fact there is a poll (that the whole team are aware of) that distinctly shows a 100% majority of those who dont like it. The team chose to ignore that thread in its entirety, so dont be surprised when asking us to help by posting in them is met by deaf ears.
